IRC can't be down as such. You can educate yourself about IRC for example here: http://en.wikipedia....rnet_Relay_Chat

Try another IRC server. You might also find it more pleasurable to use an IRC client instead of the web thingie. The most common people use is Mirc - http://www.mirc.com/ - You can find an extensive FAQ there how to connect and what IRC is also.

^ I don't use web version myself, so I can't help you there. I suggest you download the IRC client and install it. Much easier and lets you go round the web client problems, since you can chose your own server when connecting. Maybe do a google search for quakenet web clients if you are set on using one. Preferably one that lets you chose your own server instead of a preset one.

Go to the File -> Select server -> Connect -> Servers

IRC Network: All

Press the "Add" button. IRC server: irc.quakenet.org (this one will give you an available quakenet server for you, so you don't have to bother with finding one). Also give this server info a name so you recognize it. Then press "Add". Check on the "Connect" page that the one you added shows now as your chosen server. Press "OK" and connect to the server.

Since you're in Russia, you may find out that some servers have prohibited you contacting them. If you have problems with the irc.quakenet.org roulette, ask some fellow Russian which quakenet server they use.

Well yes. Seems your work place doesn't want you to use IRC during your work time.

Usually though, even when blocked you can still use a shell connection and Irssi through that, but you would need a shell client access for that.

this has got to be the asnine reply to a help question on this forum i've seen in a while.

obviously he wanted to connect to he irc server that's linked at the top of this very forum.

if as/curse doesn't want to support use of that link, the client it uses, and be up to date on the status of the server it links to, as well as moderate the channel it directs to, then it should be removed.

anyways, i decided to help out and click the link myself. it doesn't work for me.

to verify it wasn't the webclient i tried to connect to quakenet(us i'm assuming) through mirc. and it is not connecting either.

therefore i believe that in fact quakenet irc server is down.


oh wait in the time it took to write the above it finally connected after 20 attempts. so it is up. but webclients aren't going to like trying to connect like that.

Yesterday evening I tried to connect from home, but it still failed, even after 20 attempts. So "WebSense" filter at work its not reason -_-

it's quakenet being gay. probably at capacity and they probably spend as little time as possible supporting it these days.

unless you have friends in that channel, some servers have their own irc channels on gamesurge which is a bit more reliable.

Quakenet is working fine. It's the web client then. Plenty of people connected to the normal channels with other IRC clients.

every other irc server i logged in to connected in a single attempt.
