Those are some of the newer ads (the SWTOR one is even more aggressive). They're what make money for the site and they were specially developed to go onto the site between Curse and the companies running the ads.

Since they pay our bills, please be nice to them.

Not new, I guess today was my first time visiting without adblock rofl. I am also well aware of how websites like these fund themselves.. just.. it's very very aggressive advertising

Yes, yes they are. I often wonder if they really get more business that way or not. But then, I guess they wouldn't do it if it didn't pay.
