Yeah, xp flow is still pretty bad if you don't really diversify your activities. PvE players are going to have some real issues with that if it isn't adressed.

I didn't really run into any problems with it on my Asura warrior, but I was doing a lot of wandering around and killing whatever I came across and mining random nodes. Greatsword on a warrior is kinda lolsy tbh.

It's nice to see that wvw is active, though. I didn't really get a chance to check out too much this weekend as I wanted to avoid playing a lot. Also I've been kind of wrapped up in ME3 multiplayer, the new DLC characters are a lot of fun :sparkles:

My view of wvw this weekend (when I actually got into it on occasion, which was almost never) was that it was a sea of siege weapons. Imagine red circles everywhere you look...

it was a little awkward given that you can only dodge twice before you're out of dodge.

Elementalist: Not a fan of the delayed actions on some of their gt-AOE's.

Mesmer: I liked it, but wasn't a fan of the clones/phantasm mechanics. The Greatsword was nice though.

Ranger: Fun class while using the longbow, but weapon switching will be the key as the long bow does nothing at close range.

Engineer: Did some PvP, and wow I was tearing people up, using 2xPistols and turrets.

Necromancer: Underwhelming.

in teh video last night not sure if you can see it but the keep defenders had our angle of attack locked down with red circle spam from pults and carts. pretty much all the way to next side of the fort, which the other team was just beyond...

ofc the other attackign team had supply and was usign a trebuchet, which our team left a pult sitting for 3 minutes without supply, and wouldn't follow us to cap the camp nearby to pick up supply.

then a bit later i managed to get them to follow me ot a further camp and idk if any picked up supply from there.

at which point you can see form teh video we get hammered from behind by the other attackign team for some random reason.

magical 3 faction rvr pvp amirite? :sparkles:

ha da number of people waiting us to commit,and melchior's guild was adamant about it.


so if you don't like it, blame melchior.

although my personal first choice according to some reddit list is full up on gentleman guilds now so. :sparkles:

so some testing of the attack arc and strafe speed vs forward speed in combat.

in this video the run speeds look the same, but...




in this video (if you skip to around when i put on her clothes) you can see pure strafing is quite a bit slower than normal forward run speed.

guy in irc says pure strafing is about 2/3 - 3/4 of forwawrd run speed. strafe + forward is full speed.

here's his test results:

[19:48] <Athan> before I go, here were my timings for a specific straight line, flat, run:
[19:48] <Athan> Forwards 18.6 18.2
[19:48] <Athan> Right/Left 29.6 30.0
[19:48] <Athan> For+Right/Left 17.9 17.9
[19:48] <Athan> Backwards ~50 ~51
[19:49] <Athan> I make it that strafe is 60% forward speed based on those
[19:49] <Athan> probably up to a whole second timing error though
[19:49] <Athan> but it was enough to definitely confirm the difference
[19:50] <Athan> backwards does look to be 1/3 forwards speed

anyways attack arc looks liek full 180 degrees of forward. goign even 1 degree out of that cancels auto attack an dyou must restart it manually. casting gtaoes is completed unaffected by this and can be cast behind you while running.

and if you'r ewondering wtf is going on with that white nyerk in teh videos, basically the video files came out super dark so i had to use brighten to see anything at all. this is what it looks like without:



tested in tsw to confirm it's not a result of an issue with fraps.

way more lag (read network/server) today than it was before, guess its expected since its a stress test.

the game did seem to run better (read graphics wise) than before, but there is something strange with targeting this time where i used my skills on people and sometimes it was used on them, then other times i just ended up using the skill on "air" (no one).

few more weeks and we'll see how the game does "for real" on launch.

edit: clarified for those that can confuse lag with low fps.

more on the methodology for that speed test:

[10:07] <Athan> keep in mind I did it by standing still at the right point after lining up, and then starting movement as I hit start
[10:08] <Athan> rather than 'running through' and hitting start as I saw the toon pass the reference point
[10:08] <Athan> but eh, it was just rough and ready to be sure there was a difference, rather than trying to precisely measure any single speed
[10:10] <Athan> if you assume an aribtrary 100 units of distance in thetesting... the speeds are ~5.4-5.5 forwards, 3.3-3.4 strafe, 5.6 diagonal, 1.9-2.0 backwards
[10:11] <Athan> 3.45/5.45
[10:11] <Athan> oops, wrong window ;)
[10:12] <Athan> so ~63% (of forwards only) for strafe, and ~36% for backwards... I'd wager those are actually 2/3 and 1/3
[10:12] <Athan> unless Anet did any fine tuning of course
[10:12] <zeeZ> diagonal is faster than forward?
[10:12] <Athan> not actually, no
[10:12] <Athan> that'll be measurement error
