In an unprecedented and bizarre move, NCsoft West is merging and renaming servers before the game goes f2p in April. The full FAQ on server merges may be found here, but the important facts are:

• All servers will be set to central time zone, changing all the siege, arena, and dred times. Some servers may later be set back to another time zone after things have settled down and the times themselves are set to change to allow for a wider variety of time zones to participate in sieges/arenas/dred.
  
• Zikel will be merged into Vaizel and the server will be renamed to New Tiamat. All characters and legions on Zikel that conflict with characters and legions on Vaizel will be given names consisting of random characters. Everybody on Zikel will get name change and a plastic surgery ticket per character for any changes that need to be made. Legions on Zikel may get a name change ticket for free as well. MAKE SURE TO TAKE THE NAME YOU WANT ON VAIZEL IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT. Edit: updated news from Nyx states that "There will be a specific clause regarding inactive accounts, so that you will not lose your name to someone who hasn't logged in since 2009 :) " and that there will be a name appeal process
  
• The merge will be completed March 28th and characters from both sides will be playable on the same account until April 11, 2012.
  
• Characters with conflicts will receive a free transfer.

People with race conflicts have to get a transfer before the 11th. It is a shame to see such a merger just before the game goes f2p where all servers are likely to immediately fill. This may be a bit of cynicism, but is it possible that NCsoft West is trying to save money on getting a new server and is squashing the old servers together just to avoid starting a new server like Gameforge did when they launched.

While NA is merging the old servers EU is creating new servers because there was queues for like a week

It'll likely be the same for NA - which is why merging at this point BEFORE the f2p move is just weird.

I must agree with Nobody's last paragraph on the OP.

It seems that NC is merging to reuse. They know that new servers will have to be open when it goes F2P and they know as well that current servers are low population, so in a move to save money and simply fit all the filth... I mean, the old players, into a reduced space they merge servers before going F2P.

All I can say is that NC proves again and again that as a company they care little about their customers as long as they keep paying and when they stop, they'll simply find a new way of revenue. For those who think "duh, that's what a company does! They aren't charity!", you are wrong. That's what a nyerkty company does. NC has no ethics.

Updated some of the information - there is now a name appeal policy being hashed out and the people with faction conflicts will definitely get a transfer option for free.

Should be assuming that they're not below level 10 so that they get auto-deleted tomorrow.

That usually means they'll make you move one side before playing. Though they're already going to extend it to beyond 4/11 because there's just to much going on for that particular day.

oh yay. i'll make sure to leave my elyos on that zikel/vaizel server. puremallace hunting will be fun but i need to get the levels.
