EU Aion, which is being run by Gameforge, has been accused of being pay to win, although in reality many of their cash shop items are tradeable and thus people whom have a lot of free time to play can still keep up. Details for the NCsoft West NA version of free to play have been scarce and we haven't been told much other than about the C.U.B.E. concept that is shown below.



Today an announcement was made that finally reveals more of what is planned for NA Aion and how it is different from EU Aion. It turns out that the margin of difference is quite large and in a somewhat disastrous first step NCsoft West has chosen to give people Tahabata weapons for spending a certain amount of money in the cash shop from day 1 C.U.B.E. orders. While these weapons are level 50 and not 60, in the game of Aion they are still viable to use as a weapon for some combines and especially as a weapon for level 50 twinks. Remember that higher level weapons are not always better weapons in Aion. A FAQ for this pre-order benefit has been created for those ready to buy now.

This shows a very clear pay to play strategy from day one of the NA Aion free to play release as it degrades the work that players have put into playing the game for that particular series of weapons. It does make one wonder how much like a perfect world NCsoft West is trying to make Aion look.

It's the weapon. "Daevas will receive an eternal Tahabata weapon tailored to
their specific class!"

They are trying to emphasize that it's great as a vanity skin, which shows that the people that wrote up the article on it don't understand the significance of those weapons even at level 60.

Well, not every idiot. They are $45.00 per weapon. But certainly anybody with a decent paying job will be able to buy a few.

On my first pass I missed the scrolls buffs that can't be dispelled. SMs aren't going to like that at all.

yeah, but I got that they were selling weapons that still *matter* in the game on the first pass. I just hadn't realized how completely they had converted to pay to win at the time. It's like the people who did the cash shop have never played the game and didn't know what even constituted as pay to win.

Its incredible how bad they screwed this game's community. Its quite obvious that the people that constructed the cash-shop dont know much of the game. These scrolls buffs and potions are going to make OP classes like rangers/Sorcs nearly invinsible.
