http://massively.joy...or-sub-numbers/

http://massively.joy...e-subs-new-con/

since the forum has been the same threads for like the few past weeks i guess i'll start making some threads.

anyway, the fastest disappearing mmo of all time (even more than rift) SWTOR has lost 25% of its player base.

also, lulz:

http://i.imgur.com/bFCPB.jpg

Its incredible that they try to downplay 25% as being nothing major when a few months ago wow lost like 10% or less than that idk, and it was treated like the end of the world.

Also dont try to pay too much attention to that picture, it can hurt your brain almost as bad as rrragggeeev3.

Also, why do we still have the legacy nothing useful and barely operational "R" (Rift) Games forum.

The only person who posts... wait posted, there was puremallace but it seems like he died together with Rift or because he couldnt hate Guild Wars 2 enough and gave up.

Snoozle can explain why he made the R-Games forum, and can also explain why we won't have another section like it.

25% is a HUEG chunk of change, and I'm interested to see how they handle that many people leaving.

is that 25% from launch month subs?

that's actually not as bad as aoc warhammar aion and maybe rift as well who lost 50+% of the ir launch player base in the first month.

otherwise there's not much there to keep people playing anyway.

you hit cap and oh look it's this again.

the announced in feb that swtor had 1.75 million subs.

it now has 1.3m according to teh article.

i remember them saying they were looking to retain 1million to 1.5 million subs before launch.

those games i mentioned above, aion warhammer rift aoc, all sold around 1 million boxes. the most optimistic estimate of retention for any of them is rift with 500k subs(which i feel is a bit high).

all those games lost more subs, higher % of their itnial box sales to retained subs, faster than swtor has.

which is interesting considering the endgame of swtor is in some cases nyerktier than these other games.

just had another argument about this in irc with a guy that rages hard about swtor as if it stole his one true love gf or something.

he called me a fanboy lulz.

anyways, i guess what we're looking at as well with where swtor sits is

wow #1 10.5 million subs~(estimated)/last reported was 11million.
aion #2 3.5 million subs(99% of which are korean, where it is still sub based)
swtor #3 1.3 million
lineage 1(korea) #4 1 million
possibly lineage2 #5 (possible tie) but not sure if still sub based in korea, i think i saw just under 1 million players and just behind l1 in korea.
rift #5 or 6, 500k (estimated)
tera might be ahead of rift tbh right now it still in free month in west though so..

i think when we look at the last 6 years of wow killers, and their box sales vs their retention, i think all of them would love to fail as well as swtor is doing right now.

swtor cost EA 250m to make, including 100m of marketting, 60*2million box sales by feb + 15$ per month * x months +/- on a sliding scale + postg feb box sales at reduced prices.

keeping in mind pre launch in stock report ea was saying it woul dbe profitable with 500k subs, but they were looking for a retention goal of 1-1.5million subs over time. so so far these numbers are indeed within their publicly stated goals and on track.

Of course lol, it was a horrible game to be honost.
I only payes for 2 weeks and I already quitted since the gameplay+targetting system was horrible.

What do you expect if you use 2006 technology to create a game?

(click)targetting wise it goes something like

wow=gw2>rift>swtor>aion

i think warhammer migth've had ok targetting too.

the combat was very run of th emill wow copy pasta. i think more interesting than aion or rift overall (to me) but not as interesting as wow cata, and not as innovative as tsw and gw2.

if you mean tera, then basically you've got fps aiming, if cod or bf3 had a reticle that is 4+ inches wide and tall on a 1080p 24" screen and onyl 20m range on anything tops. even if you are terrible at fps for cripples and xbxo cotnroller users fps games like bf3/bc2 and cod, then you will still be quite fine and maybe even hadnicapped to some extent in tera by the lack of mobility and other handicaps on skill.

i know swtor is an ok spot, but its nowhere near as much as people hyped it to be or even the devs hyped it to be.

I know at some points they said something like 1million subs were they goal, but they also said they wanted to surpass wow.

Which they didnt.

honestly i was pretty suprised the other day when Blizzard announced that they have basically the same subs today that they had in like february/january.

Guess those who were going to quit for swtor did so but its not like Swtor has been bleeding out wow's playerbase ( a LOT of people in swtor didnt play wow or never played an mmo before).

I was reading somewhere that the true competitor of wow is actually League of Legends, a lot of people seem to think its not but apparently it is.

yeah i agree with this

as for wow regulars trying new games i think they've all gotten in teh habit of staying subbed for wow for the most part when they try them.

we had a whole raid group join DT for swtor, and they pretty much stuck to themselves and gquit toegether to get the raiding done when they all hit 50 in teh first week, all while doing their normal casual raidign schedule in wow. :sparkles:

i think that's pretty normal for people who play wow but want to try new games, though ofc you always see people posting " WE ALL JUST UNSUBBED FROM WOW AND SOLD OUR ACCOU&NTS TO PLAY THIS NEW GAME I"VE ONLT SPENT A SINGLE WEEKEND ON BUT AM SURE I WILL PLAY FOR THE NEXT DECADE"

it's kinda liek getting married in your 20s. it seems like it will last forever, but for most people it'sa bad idea and you end up hating the other person. :sparkles: always that example of a friends marriage that goes forever though to make you think it's worth the risk.

that's because swtor combat is pretty much just copy pasta of wow vanilla. even if they copied wow tbc it would've been better.
