sao you guys might've noticed that PWE is really turning up the hype on neverwinter in the past 2 weeks or so.
first we learn about the preporder packs that includes the $200 drizzt clone package.
then crytpic does a 2 hour stream of gameplay, then totalbiuscuit does an ad for it where he constantly brags about knowing people in the top wow guild ensidia.
anyways, it's crytpic so it'll probably be somewhat fun as long as one doesn't expect it to resmble the IP even vaguely, and doesn't expect to have much dev made content.
i've seen quite a bit of argument that the content is ok because it's "free" or because of the foundry, the foundry thing being funny because not only do players pay extra to make content for the devs, but in STO it was down far more than it was up for a very long time. idk if that's still the case though.
i'm kinda surprised at all the hype and buzz about the game, if only because i'm surprised the cryptic brand isn't more toxic than funcom. i guess people don't remember how badly they gutted star trek for STO, to the extent that i still joke that they might as well add b5 andromeda and firefly ships and skins to the game becasue that's about how much it resembles star trek already. i mean they put nyerking bazookas in a nyerking star trek game ffs.

so i've played this today on the beta weekend and got to level 15 so i think i've got a good first impressions and then some about what the game is doing, i also did a dungeon.
If you can look past the name neverwinter and it being a supposedly dungeons and dragons game, you could be fine.
But the game is not very good, the combat looks coold but you can't move at all while playing a wizard, you have very few skills and honestly it's nothing like how the pen and paper game plays.
Leveling is too fast, you do 2 quests or so and you level up.
Cash shop is bad, allods online level of bad. To re-spec your character you need Zen (AKA Real money), the dungeon felt unispired with just generic mobs one after another and the big boss pretty much was just waves of mobs coming out to attack your squishies and the boss charging someone every few seconds.
The animations for moving and running/jumping are some of the worst i've ever seen. Even worse than rift. But the actual skill animations were good.
Overall it doesn't feel like a dungeons and dragons game at all, you level too fast, the classes are fixed: if you are a cleric you are a healer, if you are a fighter you are a tank and so on.
The story itself wasn't that good either, very generic and somehow it makes Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 look good in comparison.
So if you can deal with a bad cash shop and animations plus ignore the dungeons and dragons aspect you could be fine here, but there are so many other better options that i'm not sure why someone should play this yet.
Well i suppose you could play it a little bit, but i'm not sure about playing this game for more than a weekend.
