So as a few of us euro's got a hold of the launcher from the FTP server the other day in the hopes of saving some time on downloading we downloaded the Aion(US) client. As it was the only one available at the time. Now there is the EU client up on the newest launcher and it's time to make the swap.

Step 1# Replace your old launcher with the newer one. This step only applies if you've been using the launcher from the FTP server. The newest launcher is located at http://aion.patcher....taller/Aion.exe - this comes with the emails that were dispatched. You'll want to fully uninstall the old launcher from the control panel , make sure you choose no when it asks if you want to delete the games already installed.

Step 2# After booting up the latest launcher you'll see now that there is Aion(US) already installed and a new 'Aion' that can be installed underneath.

Step 3# Navigate to Program files/NCSoft/Aion(US) and rename the folder to simply "Aion" .

Step 4# Right click the Aion icon that's not currently installed(above screenshot) and click 'Properties'. There's a box labelled 'Install location', click Browse and open the file named 'Aion.bin' this is located in C:\Program Files\NCSoft\Aion\bin32.

After this a prompt will appear about overwriting and modifications, let it proceed.

After it's done I'd recommend right clicking the Aion icon and running 'repair' just to clean up anything that might have gone wrong.

Voilla, a tonne of time saved for those of us that had the American client already.

"But how do you know this is the EU client?" you ask? Simple, if i change my regional settings to 'North America' a bracket will appear in the program list informing me that this is in fact the EU client.

It might not be needed in the long run, but we'll see where NCsoft go with this.

I hope that helped at least a few confused people. Feel free to ask any questions.

Do we know yet why there are two client locale tags? I really wish NCSoft would clear the air about the difference between NA and EU tags. Its obviously the same client, but I'm starting to wonder if launcher specific locale settings means different server lists, when I'm kinda hoping its like Lineage2 and you can access whichever server you want (but they're marked west/east/EU etc).

There are a couple of slight differences such as the Launcher ID being labeled as "AionEU" - I'm going to go out on a limb and say the server lists are different too. As well as a few other config files.

It will likely define what language packs are installed. We know that the ENU.pak was explicitly set to only work on English (United States) - that will probably be the only file you get in your language directory with the US version. The EU version will probably come with all supported languages, and will support English (United Kingdom) also.

Since they are different clients, it is very unlikely that they will be able to connect to the other regions servers - but this was expected.

They are not different clients - the US one works with EU regions since the latest 1.0.2.10 patch. The only difference is the launcher tag.

Hmm strange. I did the Fix mentioned by Val and it is displaying Aion (EU) in the launcher.

However now, instead of recieving a no authorisation to server message, I get a Invalid username/password : /.

My key was from AS. Does that mean I have to play the US version or will my key work on the EU version?

Hmm this is a bit retarded. When I select North America in the Launcher settings, the game changes to Aion EU. When I select Europe the launcher changes to Aion US!

The only weird thing I've noticed might happen is that the launcher shows both versions still being installed(Aion + Aion-US) which is just a bit of a weird display error.

Yeah I have that.

So now I've confirmed it.

Aion (US) name in Launcher Correlates to Europe in Launcher Settings. Cannot Connect to Auth Server.

Aion (EU) name in Launcher Correlates to North America in Launcher Settings. Invalid Username/Password

Past experience dictates that the first option is the one I'll be having Beta Access to. Whether it turns out to be Aion EU or Aion US is yet to be seen. :dazed:

Cannot connect to Auth server just means there's literally nothing to connect to, there's a good chance that if the auth servers were up for the US you'd still get the same message you're getting from EU.

You should be able to tell what type your account is from logging into your Master plaync account @ Plaync.com.

As for the name changing and correlating, whenever you're in the wrong region for the client it'll add the brackets to the end to help point out which version it is.

So for example if I'm in NA , NA Aion will show as 'Aion' and EU Aion as Aion(EU) and vice versa. If i tell the launcher I'm in Europe it'll label EU aion as 'Aion' and the American client as Aion(US).

Just checked my master account, it says EU. So thats ok.

So your saying the important thing is that you select Europe in the Settings?

I'd just wait until NCsoft confirm exactly what the deal is so we're not all guessing.

Anyone willing to place bets on that not happening until the beta forums are up?

I explained this in my last post. The "Aion" you see when the region is set to Europe is the version you want. With that being said the clients are pretty much the same. I'm actually told on IRC that it doesn't matter what client you have which defeats the point of adding two separate ones to the launcher, but hey that's NCsoft for you :D

Please note that if you have key for a certain region, you will not be able to convert it to gain access to other region.

The client has a textbug, it will say it is the US client. Please note that it doesn't matter where are you physically located and what your client app. says, you do not need to download another client. You simply need to change your regional settings to the same continent you have invitation for (if you got EU keys, set your regional settings to any EU countries, if you got US keys, set your regional settings to US), first post helps you to do that.
