Well, I've got Cooking halfway to max, and am not to keen to level up Alchemy, even if it was amazing, it was more of a curiosity killed the cat kinda question then a genuine inquiry :P

Ok, go ahead, don't do alchemy. Let's see how well you fare in PvP without: HP potions, MP potions, flight potions, attack/flight/run speed and critical scrolls. Get ready to spend thousands for them in the AH or to be at a complete disadvantage until you finally figure why is everyone raping you in the abyss.
Good luck in aion looks like you're really gonna need it

1. They're not that cheap to just buy from poor souls who decided to waste their life by taking this skill.
2. Alchemist-only potions are extremely expensive to make and not very great compared to its cost.
3. You can buy pots /etc from Abyss point shop.
Basically no different than alchemy in WoW minus the masteries and potion efficiency bonus.
I am just saving you the trouble of spending money and time on this profession just to find out its useless compared to other professions. If you're going to diss someone who is trying to help you, I guess that's just how you are.
No I'm not saying this from my beta experience. You haven't been around here very long have you? Don't know who I am?

End of discussion for this forum.
Movement speed buff is enough of a motivation to go and become an alchemist.

1. to get your char to SANCTUM you will need to lvl up to lvl 10 and thats all then you can lvl any proferssion you want it is good that you have 2 char one char you stay at sanctum and with your ather char you lvl up hight and to not foreget to lvl your gethering
you will need it to send to your char that you have at sanctum .
2. yes and no you will be able to make good stuff in your profersion and you will get nice stuff from quest but you can allso getting nice stuff from profersion when you make an iteam and you can get a crit on it a crit is if you make a green iteam and u crit onit that iteam will turn in to a blue iteam and if you craft a blue and thats a crit then you are damm lucky that iteam will turn in to a legendary ITEAM with more socks .
3 and to make a green weapon or blue one you will have to have a green RECIPE or blue RECIPE for that iteam you whant to make .
4. and potions you can not be without you need hp/mp potions and you will need fight scrolls to make you fight time longer in abys when you are there and scrolls for runing faster is good in a fight with the enemy and I DO NOT USE YOUR ABYS PONIT FOR POTIONS you will need thoes ponit for byeing good iteam and armor for thoes ponit but you can bye some good potions in abys yes but if you have a frined how can make them insted help that one with gethering and he can make potions to you abd you will save your ponit for good stuff like armor or vepon or rings and neckles ok.

So talking like a brute makes you a professional? A lot of people purchase pots becuz well.. they need pots for pvp and they know they're not going to get very high. just carrying abyss points when you aren't aiming to save for a 60k point gear or guardian = letting points go to waste when you get ganked. and really. you get ganked non stop.
A lot of people will actually leave you be if you are a lvl 9 soldier becuz they know you won't drop them any points.
How do I know this? one becuz famous PvPers that do live streams actually are seen skipping lowbie targets.
edit - Ok a lot of bored people looking for a fight again. Everyone is looking for a useful profession to take and I'm telling you that this is the last profession that you should take if you're into crafting.
I've seen nothing but complaints from Alchemists on forums about end game usefulness. I guess yes, maybe in the beginning you'll make some money I guess. Because when everyone is a noob, everything sells. But at the end when there's 1000000 alchemists who thought they were so smart taking this like you, you'll start to wish you took something else.
Weaponsmithing is the best long term investment, but its also the most expensive to level. Save your Weapon refining stones :x

well the point is the people who are better than you are doing so because killing a lowbie target with 0 point reward is a waste of time and thats why they have lvl 50 abyss gear and you don't.

thou u can make orbs and books with alchemy, i still dont think its as good as the other crafting options.

Well you gona knowe what i mean soon anyway just wait and see and feel. after all this is a pvp game so do you really think that ppl gona care if you are rank 9 or rank 1 and one more thing you still got points after you have killed first time just not so much as first time. mm that was exact that i said before dont spend Abyss point on potions you gona ned it for better gear.
And you lose this Abyss points then you use them and your pvp rank goes down to so spend you Abyss point wise.

"Don't you know who I am?" Oh sorry Mr. President, but this is not a game of who the F are you. All I know and all I see is some random dude posting crap.
Alchemy is a profession every single character can benefit from, although it's true it's not the one you want to master out but it's definitely the profession you want for consumables, even if you have cooking too.
Now let's see, EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to make? What are you smoking? If you are going to craft anything and make profit, be it alchemy or not, you're gonna have to level up your gathering skill, so you can basically level them up by gathering the herbs you need to make the pots and you will be able to make them by yourself with 0 cost. Spend 30 mins gathering the herbs and you will have enough potions for a week. You only need 3 herbs or 1 fresh herb for 3 potions, plus some elemental water that is not going to cost you anything since mobs drop elemental stones like crazy and omg 3 glass bottles! Yes extremely expensive...
But please you go ahead and make sure you spend all your abyss points in potions. Don't got a complaint regarding that.
The only extreme thing here is this thread itself, it's extremely misleading

That is the most stupid thing ive heard. I wonder if you have actually played AION or just listened to some people who have tried it in korea. (and yes I used to read your translations and have also discovered alot of it was wrong in describing this game)
Alchemist potions are far from useless especially the HP and Mana versions they are all better then the Abyss variant. Mainly since Abyss potions costs a decent amount of abyss point and when you buy one you loose the points.
Alchemist potions have a 30-45 second cooldown reuse while the abyss variant have 5 minutes reuse time. During the abyss potions cooldown you can use several alchemist potions.
How in the world would that be useless ? These potions are also fairly easy to make and if you gather materials while you level up it is not a waste of time or resources. These potions are also crucial when it comes to tanking some raidbosses since it adds additional stats.
Another thing you do not even mention is the Scrolls. They are fantastic Run speed, Critical increase and Block increase the greater ones increase your critical rate with 60 POINTS.
Having run speed scroll is incredible in pvp it enables you to outrun most people who does not use them.
Sure you can buy these from Auction house but they sell for more then it costs to go out and gather materials to make them.
I do agree thou that having a profession that would benefit you more say Armorsmithing. (if your a chain user)
It might be the better choice since you make armor yourself but you still need to go out and level gathering for that profession to.
