Hey, I've played 2 MMO before this one, SilkRoadOnline - a heavy grinding game based on very few quests. And WoW in which you are surounded by hundreds of quests which you can pick from to level.

I looked at this website and it scared me to death:
Aion too hardcore or too soft? You decide Read What They Read, See What I See

Apparently from what this guy i saying, the grinding - to quest is very undesirable. I had pre-ordered the Aion Collector's edition and have been playing the betas. I'd like to know if that chart is somewhat correct. Otherwise I might as well take my money else-where :(

While this is a great factor..
"He is only considering the rewards, while doing the quests you obtain XP out of mobs. Without counting the abyss and that, he?s obviously missing a lot of XP. He?s probably missing the secret quests also (those that fall from mobs or that you obtain after exploring, like the books one in pandemonium). That being said, there are certain levels which require to grind indeed, but it didn?t seem as bad as those charts state for me."

this is what disturbs me:
"Yeah, I?ve grinded the same mobs and done the same q over and over again and am about to ding 27. Hopefully more unlocks at 27 because it?s becoming quite boring"

"even though the chart is incorrect, the old ?you can lvl up only by questing? statement is still false"

Can anyone confirm/deny?

I wish people would search, the game in the NA/EU pre-view is vastly different than what will launch in 1.5. In 1.5 they have added more quests, and increated the rewards from the quest.

Grinding shouldn't be as huge of an issue as people who are apparently afraid to play the game think it is going to be.

Honestly it so sad how wrong people are, bringing up outdated charts and outdated articels. Defending themselves by saying SM's and rangers don't get parties and thus the outdated info still applies. They do there are clans and all of that. It's far from hardcore, but it's also harder then casual. I think Aion is the first to hit a good middle ground. Might even be too soft for my taste, but we'll see.

It's sad to see people need to hit on a game that isn't even out yet, just because they have no life purpose. >_>

Dude, the first thing it says on that page, in bold red text is "This is a very old translation and is most likely outdated. Stop linking it as if its the current numbers"

I haven't gotten past level 12 yet, but so far, I've gotten all my exp from quests. Not had to grind a single time. If 1.5 is gonna be easier, then well, that'll cut down time even more!

Walloftext.
World of Warcraft is the easiest MMO on the planet. Okay? Because another mmo doesnt have as many quests as WoW does NOT make it into a grind. Go try Lineage 2 or pretty much ANY other mmo for a month.
Comparing Aion to WoW is like comparing a normal paced mmo to a fast paced hand-holding tuned-to-5-year-olds mmo..

Now, i enjoyed WoW myself for 6 months or so. It has its moments. But you really cant compare it to any other mmo because of how utterly easy it is. There are guides on the net on how to reach lvl 80 in less than a week............. This is without cheating, without macroing, just normal gameplay.
So again, because a game takes longer to "finish" than WoW does not make it a grinder. Lineage 2 is a grinder. EVE Online is a grinder. Aion is one of the few normal paced mmo's to come out lately, and im damn happy with its balance of quests vs mob-killin.

It's sort of like a guy that only played Wii Sports, as his only experience with sports games, then goes on to play something like FIFA 09 or Top Spin 3 and complains that its too hard. Well dude, you just got started with the wrong type of game in the genre, the absolutely easiest one to mess with your perception of what's "normal" :P

1.1 1.2 and 1.5 are adding lots of quests and also increasing the XP of normal quests. Right now it's just faster to grind outside the mission quests.

I'm a MapleStory veteran. I think the grinding involved in Aion is just fine, although it is a bit irritating to have to sit down and regen HP/MP, and click to target a mob instead of super potion chugging and hitting whatever the closest mob in front of you is.

You can chain monsters with mp potions. And you get more money than you spent in potions

If you can stand the endless kiting, play a Ranger. Wont ever have to sit down to rest, since you rarely get hit.
Heck most times i didnt even get hit once, if the mob gets close just use the "free-Dodge" skill and jump over him, shooting as you run forwards away.

I understand what you are saying, but how "hard" the game may be isn't my concern, the concern is will I have to set my mind into bot-like mode and just brainlessly kill mobs repeatedly until I get enough xp? I just feel like i'd be going back into SRO (Easy to grind, still insanely boring grinding). I was only referring to WoW because it sends you various places to do small tasks....There is no mindless grinding every mob you see unless you choose to do so.

Depends on your class....
Some classes are support roles and take forever to kill a single mob.
Some classes kill very fast "depends on lvl"

Some classes like the Ranger are good, but you have to beable to kite well.

It is all a point of view.

What would the game be if you could just be max lvl in 2 weeks.....

Yes, I have had some hard times in getting to 20+, but hey it is the game and mmo's are all a Grind to some degree or other.

Just been playing a Ranger al weekend (well saturdaynight when the DL finished :( ) and got to lvl 13 in like 14-15 hours and that was mostly solo, guess what you can do in a good balanced group, if you focus on the quests its easaly doable
The best thing about insanity is that you're the only person not bothered by it

I reached level20 yesterday and I can tell you the only grinding I did was by choice and never was it needed. Now I'm stuck with about 10 quests, some from lv17. I don't know what the situation is past 20, but as they've been adding constantly quests in all the patches, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, really.
