Hey F8L, Think you can give us tips on fighting certain classes?

Specifically how to counter a sorc that's bombing you from the air (negating the use of ambush)

Run ;).

If a Ranger or Sorc gets the drop on you from the air, you're at such a huge disadvantage that 9 times out of 10 you should be running.

Unless you know that the Sorcerer is vastly inferior to you and you can handle them in the air, I suggest you immediately take to the air and get away ASAP. Blow evasions, bloodlust, whatever is necessary to get away and reset the battle.

If you're capable of getting to full health by the time they are forced to land, you can hide and re-engage them, or simply live to fight another day.

Aerial combat against any ranged class is a huge disadvantage for an Assassin. You shouldn't throw yourself at someone that has the drop on you in an aerial fight, especially if it's a Sorc or Ranger.

Would you say it'd make much sense to get out of range then cloak and fly up behind them?
Speaking which is there a way to force them to the ground while in flight?
(Sorry if the answers are in the thread, I haven't gotten the chance to read through it all as yet. Not at home, will go through it carefully once I have the time later today.)

There's no way to force them out of flight, no.

It's a judgement call as to whether or not you re-engage them in the air. I personally wouldn't do it. I'd stalk them til they came down and then I'd unload. I do any and everything to avoid getting into an aerial battle with a ranged class.

Good point. I just like to think I can find a way to accomplish anything with some quick thinking and proper application and timing. But it makes sense to wait them out though.

Oh pardon my manners I didn't mention what a great guide this was and I feel a lot more confident about playing an assassin after reading this. Now to get the actual practice of it in and I'll be good. Thank you sir for a wonderful F.A.Q.

Great guide many thanks !!!

Just a little question about stigmas...

For exemple if i get the "Ambush I" stigma at LvL25 do i need to get an Ambush II at LvL31 (Ambush III at LvL37, and then for the others Ambush stigma) or my Ambush I will level up ?
In this case if i need to get Ambush I ,II, III, IV and V can i use them separatly or do they reload when i use one ?

You will need to get Ambush II in order to increase the power of the ability. You simply replace the Ambush 1 stigma with Ambush 2 stigma, that way you don't take up tons of slots.

If you were to keep two stigma stones socketed that were the same skill, but different levels, I'm quite sure they'd both go on cool when you used one or the other. If they didn't, I'm quite positive that people would be posting "Equip all 5 ranks of Ambush! Just chain stun!" all over the forums by now because it would be way beyond OP.

In short: You have to get the next ranks and equip them. They don't just level up like your regular abilities, and you can't use separate ranks on the separate cools.

This was a very good question and I will be adding it to the FAQ.

Thanks Epalatsi.

EDIT: Added it in ;)

Read the FAQ, and read all the following posts so forgive me if this was mentioned and I didn't see it.

Sins are able to use different signet-creating skills to reach the fifth level faster correct?

i.e. Engrave Signet I (Level 1) > Beast's Roar I (Level 2) > Engrave Signet I (Level 3) > Beast's Roar I (Level 4)> Engrave Signet I (Level 5)

Methinks yes, but I'm not 100% sure.

It is covered in the FAQ, here's what it says:

Quote

The skills that can apply up to the 3rd level means that upon reaching pattern level 3 it will not be capable of pushing the pattern level any higher without using a skill that can go to level 5. Skills that can apply pattern up to level 5 however can further the targets Signet level from 1, all the way up to 5.

Engrave Signet is capable of applying up to the 3rd level. Beast's Roar can go up to 5. Meaning Engrave Signet can apply signets lvl 1, 2, and 3, but nothing beyond that. Beast's Roar can do 1, 2, 3, and 4/5.

A combo would be to use Beast's Roar ---> Engrave ---> Chain Engrave ---> Beast ---> Burst. You use beast first because it will be up sooner if you get it going ASAP.

im not an expert on the subject at all, but i think you can, although Engrave Signet I can only go up to lvl3 if i remember correctly.

but lets say it does work you'de probably have to do engrave signet (lvl1) --> beasts roar (lvl2) --> engrave signet (lvl3) --> beasts roar (lvl4) and then again beasts roar (lvl5) cause beasts roar can go up to lvl5.

ah crap, i thought i was at the end of the page already when i read that post. sorry for the unnecessary post , just ignore it

What people need to remember is Engrave Signet goes into Chain Engrave, so it's essentially 2 signet levels.

Hey F8L Fool i was wondering if YOU could be the same geared person/level would you have gone Elyos, im wondering because Elyos have that extra stun and iv heard Asmodians are populated and Elyos get for rift spawns.

My main is an Asmodian Assassin for this beta. I also have an Elyos Assassin, and Elyos Sorcerer. Whether or not I stick with Asmodian in the future can't be determined as of right now. I have a considerable amount of friends I am still talking into the game, or that are definitely coming to the game.

Once I come to a consensus with them as to what faction we'll take, then I will know.

Frankly, I believe the leveling areas and quests in general for Elyos are easier by far. I really don't foresee the stun as being a huge push for me right now. Of course having a 20m range extra stun would be nice, but it's a 3m cool so in reality it would be useful only once per fight, AND I'd have to stack up enough signets to use it in the first place.

If a fight lasts long enough for me to use a 4/5 pt heaven's edge, burst signet, AND my third stun...most likely I am going to be more concerned with running than I am about the 3rd stun.

In short: No, I wouldn't re-roll as of right now for a stun. The only thing that will really impact my faction choice is the people I play with.

i know, saw it in that chain skill window i think. but its a stigma right? so there's no certainty you have that skill.
meaning not everyone can perform it the way you described. but other then that, you're absolutely right :D
just wanted to clarify why i left Chain Engrave out in my example.

love your thread, its my bible in Aion :p

Ya, it's a Stigma. You get rank 1 from a very simple and easy quest that is automatically given to you upon hitting level 20. It's the first stigma you will even have an opportunity to use. If someone isn't using at the very least rank 1, let alone rank 2 (which isn't uncommon), then something is seriously wrong lol.

I'm glad this FAQ has been helpful for you and others. That's what I wrote it for ;).

Thank you for this post! I am a newcomer to the Assassin class and this was very helpful in my understanding of the class.
