Shields are for Templars, Gladiators, and Clerics.

Oh, cool. Well then you would need to go to the cleric trainer and learn, I guess, seeing as thats what I had to do.

Priests aka clerics and chanters get 1st passive shield mastery on 9th lvl.... after class change. Warriors: Glads and Templars get it on 1st lvl.

EDIT: Little corrects

It's pointless for a Chanter to wear a shield. A Gladiator may need it when they tank, but there is no situation where a Chanter would wear a shield.

Gladiators shouldn't tank so they dont need a shield. Chanters use a shield with a mace, possilbly better than a staff imo, well at lower lvls anyway, I went a templar in Chinese retail and only played a chanter till lvl 18.

They shouldn't but they can. As its a good back up if anything goes wrong.

If anything goes wrong then they should be dead. The only reason Tempalrs have shields is because they are supposed to take damage and maintain agro via a selection of skills they have which the gladiator doesn't.

A gladiator with a shield is a gladiator doing less damage and failing at tanking thus not doing their job, which is an easy one, hitting things...hard.

There is no point in discussing what each class should do. There are people who will promote shields for Chanters and Gladiators, and there are those who will disagree. Fact is however, that Chanters are usually viewed as a class based around staves while Gladiators as a class based around Polearms.

Maybe there will be shields that are itemized specifically for them.

Gladiators are one of the best tanks pre end game since they do a lot more damage than the temps in my experience :) and chanters use shields if they off heal in pvp or even instances and get agro :DD
