It doesn't matter though, it's riskless. In world PvP if you die you lose a lot of AP on higher ranks, in this instance you lose none, it's a risk-free rank-up system.

He's not mentioning how much APs you get, he's saying its BIG - and it probably is - but if you have an organized group it may be bigger in the abyss against groups.

If people only log to do Abyss Instances / Dreadgeion (which btw is a place where you can get ganked by the other faction) then that's their choice, there are many players that will play to play - rather than play just to get pts and then hide and not do anything ever again.

It depends how you want to play the game, want top ranks without deaths? You won't get them because there is a K:D ratio apart from only APs required. You will have to pvp for the top shiz eventually and afaik, there is a new tier of Abyss gear in 1.5 is there not? I could have sworn I read something about that.

TL;DR - There will be people to gank.

no it isnt if i get 40.000 points for one player kill and maybe lose 35.000 if i die and i only gain 500 for one mob. I will go pvp because i will make alot more points/hour, ok i will lose some sometimes, but i will make still more points

Kinda hard for PvP to be 100% optional.

It seems to me each instance is linked to a different fortress right? So whoever wants to do a particular instance has to get control of that fortress first.

Feii's experience might be a bit skewed because the test server surely doesn't have many people playing.

Between the uneducated, the PvP freaks and the ones who want to do aparticular instance for a particular armor piece, i doubt The Abyss is going to be carebear land anytime soon.

At higher ranks you lose a lot more than you gain.

Anyway, it's just a discussion, I just thought i'd bring it from the rangers forum to a place more people can read it.

Well like I and others said,dont take 1 person out of 4milion's word... plus remember how hunters were in WoW,we can make a contrass on it ... dagger just dropped ... hunter item ... polearm just dropped ... hunter item... sword just dropped ... hunter item!

only the top 30 player on each site will lose more than they gain from a kill of an equal rank enemy.

At those levels you won't be fighting equal rank enemy >99% of your time, so that's a bit moot point.

Most likely 1:1 K/D will not get you past soldier ranks if you don't skip 90% of potential opponents.

I believe this information has be quite misinformed, as some has stated already, Feii's information was based of a private server. Anyways in the offical 1.5 patch, I didnt see anything stating that you could get AP in PVE, so for all the people that are crying in the corner, lets wait until the offical word comes around.

There is a lot of confusion about how the points really get distributed and I blame NCsoft not making that a bit more clear.

After 400k I killed a 3rank soldier and only got 350 pts. If I die I lose 5,000 AP. I thought that was lame. At this state, anyone would feel extremely pressured to stay alive. Also past 3rank soldier, everyone has a bit of PvP backbone, so it starts to get a little harder.

I?m forced to resort to repetitive quests.

After 4star Lieut its probably the safest and the fastest way to go.

The way I see how it goes is like this:

If you kill somebody of the same rank than you are, points go according to this chart.

So if you are Rank 2 Soldier yourself and kill a Rank 2 Soldier, you gain 1264 points and he loses 561.

Things get different when, as a Rank 2 Soldier, you face a Rank 9 Soldier. If you kill him, you won't get full 120 points because you are higher rank than he is. On the other hand if he kills you, he'll get MORE than 1264 for the same reason. If you die you'll lose 561 points regardless who kills you.

The thing that makes this tricky is that there are alot more low rank players than high ranks. On higher levels you might not even see one of your own rank during a day - you don't have any other option than:

A) Kill lower rank players and get low amounts of AP per kill (in this situation you NEED better K/D ratio than 1:1 to even keep your current rank)
B) Farm PvE



Correct me if this isn't how it works.

Thanks a lot for the link/response. A lot of people wouldn't have bothered to be so detailed, so it was appreciated. The information I heard must have been a misunderstanding (either mine or the source's) based purely on the point loss. The system makes more sense this way then I was was imagining.

The people who do this will be easy to pick out in a PvP scenario. They'll be the ones dead, for lack of experience combating other players. Seeing as it is an option, I wouldn't go so far to say that PvP is pointless. As long as it remains fun, it'll be a primary objective for me.

didnt we already know that after a certain rank its safer to avoid pvp and just get aps by pveing?

Im not so bothered with it since APs are more like currency than exp.

The important thing is that there are always people to go out and hunt and kill ^_^
