I really hope Aion has a good Korean grind to it.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe everyone's big complaint with grinding is the fact that it's tedious. Whether soloing or partying, here is the breakdown:
The Grind said:
This starts out as too much of a good thing, then degrades to way too much of a mediocre thing, and eventually devolves into diabolically too much of a bad thing. Character advancement is spiffy, but why can't it be done by exploration, innovation, and quests? Why is one required to spend huge amounts of time murdering the local fauna to advance?
I play FFXI, I have no qualms with working for my advancement, but sometimes it'd be nice to have some options when I don't feel like spending hours killing the same shit. I for one hope that, especially with the dynamic server development in Aion, the players pushing the envelope storyline-wise will see some advancement payoffs no matter what angle they're taking.

I mean sure you may think its tedious, but why play an mmorpg if you can't grind. That is what an mmorpg is. They should rather rename mmorpgs to massively multiplayer online watch bars fill up. Especially in a PvP mmorpg like this most people will just grind, kill people, grind, kill more people, grind more, and kill more people.

I envy you, sir(madam?). People who can enjoy hours upon hours of grinding are rare indeed. I think I'm going to concede this one to a difference in taste then and quit hijacking this thread, but I encourage you to rethink your dismissal of xp for exploration. Like it or not, it's a viable concept. Earth and Beyond did it quite well in its day.

MMO content should fully utilize the fact that you have thousands of people, probably from all over the world, interacting together. Sieges, clan wars, defending forts against NPC enemies etc. Otherwise it seems to me you could just as well play FFXII to grind and then Counterstrike to PVP?

Yes, Castle sieges, clan wars, are pvp content that add different pvp styles and more variety of pvp which makes it fun, but it's not counter-strike since counter-strike characters are all the same you're not significantly pulling away from grinding. People can't get lucky and kill you in an mmorpg. The grind is to pull ahead and then you PvP for forts or what not to control territory and dominate the server. It's not a 5v5 shutter flash bannana, smoke right side, flash over, nade action box, flash back halls, 2 check back halls rest clear site, type thing. What you control stays with you, the round doesn't reset.
There's a completely different kind of teamwork from a mmorpg compared to counter-strike. Counter-strike is a mind game, while mmorpgs are more micro management and people playing their jobs correctly.
