Hi all,

Assassins and Rangers are great classes, but you all already know this. My question is, where are you all hiding?!

Like many legions, we have been openly recruiting for a little while now, and something we've noticed is that the Scout classes are very much lacking in numbers. Looking at other legion recruitment pages, I see many are having a similar issue.

Do Scouts see themselves as the lone warriors, hiding in the shadows waiting to pounce (KS!) when the opportunity arises? Or are scouts not as popular as we thought they would be? I noticed when trying one that until the later levels the skills don't flow as nicely as other classes because of the long cooldowns. Is this putting people off?

Looking for answers from the horses mouth - thanks! :skip:

Not sure about others, but im already playing and will be playing with friends at the EU launch and therefore aren't looking for a guild :)
But then again, I've never in my game 'life' played a ranger/hunter before and I can tell you that I was pleasantly suprised when I went against my nature and tried out the ranger class. I haven't found them appealing before in other games and I suppose that might be a reason of why people don't try them out, not to mention that they are a little slow in the beginning to level.

Im playing ranger on the cbt6 atm and its pissing me off that it sucks so badly 10-19 >_>
You need to use Entangling shot, go melee mode, backstab the mob, entangling shot again and switch around your weapons all god damn time till lvl 19 T_T

Im trying to decide wether to go sorc or ranger on release.

hard decision

Sh4w, once you get to higher levels though, doesn't the extra survivability appeal to you? Especially with the death penalties in PvP?

I really think the Scout classes are going to be very useful, and I'm surprised there is such a shortage!

Well, if you compare the 1-10 leveling curve as scout with the other classes, its pretty brutal (at least it was for me!)
Maybe that dishearts some people. But now that I'm a Ranger am absolutely loving it! Wish I found out earlier before leveling a SM and Chanter to 20...

Seems to be more an Assassin thing - I think they are setting up their own secret gank squads somewhere!

I had the opposite impression, actually. Most of the legions I looked into had scouts, gladiators, sorcerers and clerics out the wazoo with no more being invited, and templars, spiritmasters and chanters would be open.

Sub-level 10, scouts are my least favourite classes to level, to be honest. They have little control, little defense, and DPS nowhere stellar enough yet. Level 10-20, rangers are pretty painful, you either melee like you're an assassin, or kite which takes 3x as long. Assassins are a little better off, though not significantly until the 20s when they start getting most of their stuns. So I wouldn't be surprised if Scout classes weren't as popular as say Gladiators or Sorcerers, because those two are very straightforward, and very strong right out of the box.

Yeah, probably. As an Assassin, I felt horribly vulnerable and exposed while leveling, because let's face it, their defenses at lower levels are laughable. Take a level 10 Assassin, and a level 10 Templar, who's got more stuns? Templar, by FAR and with shorter cooldowns too, coupled with the fact that Templar at that level is sporting plate, they have a significantly easier time of it. Similarly, most Rangers when they hit 10 grab a bow reward, go to purchase skills and realize that they only get two skills, both of them with pretty sizable cooldowns, and when they try to use those skills, they realize that hey, we actually need to buy arrows. Considering arrows are 1g each, for a level 10 char it's actually a lot of moula. If you get to 13, you get traps, pretty long cast, pretty long cooldown, and more reagents to buy. Not to mention you're still short on non-melee skills until 19. So yeah, it definitely turned me off. Not enough to give up the idea altogether, but it's pretty bad compared to other classes.

Though, from all accounts, the pain in the first 25 levels pays off afterwards with dividends.

Ranger and Assassin are my actual top 2 class choices - I'm just trying to make up my mind about which I'll pick (will probably end up with one as main and the other as alt). Played them both until about 20 in CAion and loved every second of it!

Maybe, just maybe alot of players know that to play an assassin well in large scale world pvp its a very very gruelling and painstaking class to stick with, unless you can play the character very well.

Possibly alot more are playing ranged and heavy armour wearing classes over lighter armoured, more vulnerable stealth classes.

Don't judge the beta about classes, as most are trying different classes to get a feel for the game.
I really don't see scouts/rangers/assassin as the FotM class either because of the early level pains.
Just have to wait till Aion goes live to find scout classes.

I had a dream about you and in it i eat you

I still thought that the scout classes would be more popular than this. Other than Assassins and Rangers, we have now completed our recruitment of 60 members across all the other classes. Just the scouts letting us down!

I think that the Beta testing may have put a few scouts off, due to the awkward levelling at the beginning.

Well a lot of people are trolling the forums saying that "scouts take no skill to play" and they somehow convinced all the newbies who were like "IM GONNA PLAY A SCOUT AND ROFLSTOMP EVERYONE!!! YEAH!!!" to pick a different class. w/e let the noobs go somewhere else. and to all those people saying that rangers and sins take no skill to play, well were just going to have to own you a bit harder now :D

Also, I agree with what demon said. You really cant tell anything from the beta, and yes due to the slow paced leveling in the beginning of the game most legolas and altair wannabes (see what i did there i made an assassins creed and LOTR joke) will drop out in the beginning of the game. For once, I guess you can expect to see a majority of skilled players playing rogues, eeer assassins, and hunters, i mean, rangers lol.
