Dungeons & Instances
Aion is well known for its PvPvE game mechanics but a lot of people seem to place their focus on the PvP aspects while remaining oblivious to the PvE that exists within the game.
PvE(Player versus Environment) is a key factor to your development and progress within the game, it allows you to not only increase the level of your character but obtain new skills and equipment. Some people don't want to be lowbies forever!
Dark Poeta (50+)
A dungeon of scaling difficulty Dark Poeta is a level 50 dungeon introduced in the latest patch of Aion(1.5) Showcasing monsters similiar to those found in regular Poeta. This instance is considered to be one of the end-game instances and rewards those that manage to complete it accordingly.
However Dark Poeta has a special trait rewarding players that perform well with better drops from the final boss, the better a team performs the harder said boss will be and of course the drops scale with it.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUGMGzjVQAY"]YouTube - AION - v1.5 Dark Poeta Final Boss The Dragon (A rank difficulty)[/ame]
Of course your efforts will not go to waste with this instance dropping items from the Tahabata and Anuhart sets. Show me a man that can say no to [item=text]Tahabata's Jewel[/item] and I'll show you a crazy man indeed!
Battleground - Dreadgion (50+)
A dungeon based off the flying carrier ship known as the Dreadgion, the Balaur's ultimate flying force, it allows both Asmodian and Elysean players to square off in a battle to take down the Dreadgion. Unlike most instances the Dreadgion Battleground runs on a timed scheduled and also requires a certain amount of players to be present.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAbuAVEvqlo&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion KOR - Seyfried and Ayu inside the Dreadgion[/ame]
Running off a simliar system as Dark Poeta the Dreadgion Battleground awards participants with points for completing certain objectives and killing monsters. Points will also be awarded for killing members of the opposite faction, dying to said faction will result in the loss of points.
Upon completion of the instance Abyss Points are given based on the amount of points earned in the instance, items are also known to drop from special bosses.
Steelrake Valley (40+)
Steelrake Valley, yet another one of the newer instances, is a 40+ map featuring a rather impressing looking pirate ship. Featuring a small army of Shougo pirates the Steelrake Valley imbues fear into nyerk ._.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRMLbQtfsy8"]YouTube - Aion KOR - Shulack Ship's Pirate Captain[/ame]
Like its counterparts the Steelrake Valley has varying difficulties based on the path you choose to take, tread wisely ;)
Rumor has it Aion's new space program will be featured, you heard it here first!
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXCfd2n3W58"]YouTube - AION - v1.5 'The Steel Rake' Shulacks Pirate Ship Cannon Shot Scene[/ame]
For those of you successful in your voyage you may be so lucky as to find some of Hutkin's Weapons or the Steel Beard armor. Rumor has it [item=text]120000910[/item] are in fashion this season.
Abyss Fortresses (Level dependent on fortress)
A rather intriguing new introduction to the game Abyss Fortresses now contain their own dungeons. As guilds of the player factions seize control of fortresses within the Abyss they grant access not only to their guild but their entire race to the dungeon within their fortress. Difficulty and rewards vary from fortress to fortress but needless to say there are some shiny baubles to be found!
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00_h6xMfEHI&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion - 1.5 Fortress lvl 35 Treasure Room[/ame]
As you can probably see the instance is styled after a class treasure chamber with Balaur as guards, you will need to defeat the Balaur and destroy as many treasure chests as possible within the time limit to obtain the rewards. Don't take too long or you'll run out of time!
Nohusana Training Camp (25-28)
As the name would imply the Nohusana Training Camp is more-so a tutorial than an epic battle between the races.
Serving as a basic guide for lower level players the training camp provides a simple walkthrough of sieges for new entrants into the Abyss, you may enter from your faction's stronghold in the Abyss.
Adma Fort (47+)
Nestled deep within Brusthonin the Adma fort certainly lives up to its name with a series of cramped maze-like corridors expected in any good fort. Undecorated walls no doubt crawling with unspeakables will be your surroundings for this particular experience so have fun with that!
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV1ynYNtKsI"]YouTube - Aion KOR - Fort Adma Boss[/ame]
Such a dreadful setting surely must reward those that withstand it well, you'll have to go in and see eh? WARNING: May contain giant zombie horses, caution is advised ;)
Theobomos Secret Laboratory (47+)
Theobomos, a dungeon snuck in with 1.2, bears strong resemblance to its lower-level counterpart but fear not there's plenty of death to go around.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyLkepLIwgY&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion KOR - Theobomos Indeon Dungeon Boss (no sound)[/ame]
But what would a dungeon be without a giant guy wearing chains? All I have to say is good luck and avoid those fingers, they look sharp!
Aetherogenetics Lab (41+)
Dark and damp laboratory anyone? The Aetherogenetics Lab(formally known as the Lepharist Secret Labratory) is a mid-level trip to the old days of potion brewing and creepy old men with brooms.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iss1wu7hmoU"]YouTube - Lepharist Secret Laboratory[/ame]
Try your luck and see if you can survive, it's hardly the most friendly of dungeons. Beasts and men alike walk the corridors, Elysea isn't going to pull punches with this one.
Alquimia Research Center (41+)
Oh what a charming dungeon you have good sir. Experimentation and mutulation is the name of the game folks and what better place to do it than a research center?
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g63upltJuyg&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion - Instance Game play (Alquimia Research Center)[/ame]
Protected by powerful elite-class mobs the Alquimia Research Center is one tough nut to crack in the frozen heart of Besulan. Fight your way past gates and walls of warriors and mages to the middle, who knows what treasure awaits you. Conspiracies just waiting to unfold...
Draupnir Cave (43-50)
A spacious cave deep within the bowls of Besulan the Draupnir cave is a fairly high instance with an... interesting assortment of monsters. From hissing beasts to floating rocks the cave is certainly an interesting place to be.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJQxMCO2_0Y"]YouTube - Aion - Final Draupnir Cave run ( Level 45+ Instance Game play)[/ame]
Of course the Balaur always find a way to make an appearance and this instance is no exception!
Rumor has it there are some pretty crazy drops to be found too xD
Eracus Temple Cavern (28-35)
What a nice change from all the doom and gloom.
The Eracus Temple Cavern is considered to be a pretty early-game instance but with a stunning scenery of waterfalls and steep cliffs.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNsygrZfQFg"]YouTube - Kratia Snake Boss inside Eracus Underground Temple Aion Online US Beta #5[/ame]
You tell me how a snake can carry such an assortment of items and I'll give you my hat!
Fire Temple (30-38)
The Fire Temple, located within a smoldering volcano in Asmodae the name really does seem appropriate.
A mid-level instance the Fire Temple features several cavernous chambers with patrolling lava monsters and golems. Considered one of the more important instances in character development the fire temple is typically sought after for the final boss, Kromede.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htbZ4lExl8c&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion KOR - Temple of Fire (preview)[/ame]
Keeper of the Kromede weapons many players will farm this dungeon for days on end in desperate hope of obtaining such a prize.
The corrupt judge is in no rush to hand over her prizes though...
Lava Caves (40+)
An extensive network of caves and passages the Lava Caves are home to the oh so appealing Klaw. In the eastern reaches of Morheim lies a rather humble cave entrance but within... things certainly get interesting.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj00gltIyjc&fmt=18"]YouTube - Aion CHN - Lava cave of Taran (outdoor dungeon)[/ame]
The Lava Caves are certainly no walk in the park with the constant fear of bottlenecks, patrolling Klaw and dead ends. Best of luck to those of you brave enough to navigate it!
If you're visiting for a mission quest see if you can spot the scene from Lord of the Rings! ;)
Please bear in mind that there's a pretty high chance some instances/dungeons are missing from this list, data is somewhat hard to come by having only just been translated! Forgive me for my human failings ._.
People have grown fond of remarking that my news threads tend to be in sections in three, well hurr hurr you're right again! I have yet another little group of forum changes to share with you oh patient fans of Aion so lets get to that eh?
First off you may have noticed that General Guides has been attacked with a blow-torch of heavy moderation. As Aion approaches we are shifting our focus onto things that players will need and admittedly many of us need a helping hand every now and then.
General Gudies, a section for guides about the game in-general funnily enough, is certainly starting to pick up in traffic with a lot of good quality material being posted. On that note all stickies in GG have been replaced with a singular list - http://www.aionsourc...uides-list.html Specifics can be found in that thread although the concept is pretty simple. Users are welcome to suggest guides to be added/removed/starred (see in-thread for the star thing) in the thread itself.
Looking for inspiration for writing your own guide? I'd advise checking out http://www.aionsourc...d-pvp-aion.html which certainly caught my eye this week! Nice job Aion Bunny ;)
A bird? A plane? Silly fool you're inside on your computer, it's just the new open-beta forums. With OB just around the corner it's about time to unveil our specific forums for the event. Located in Server-Specific forums (just below Aion News) rest our two lovely new categories. Do bear in mind that we will be wiping these forums after OB to be replaced with the NA/Eu release forums.
North American Server Forums
European Server Forums
Just to go over the ground-rules for these specific forums. We have decided that people grow a certain amount of attachment to their server even in a beta and things can get... heated. On that note we're willing to make compromises and be relatively lenient on Moderation calls within these two categories. Please note that this will vary from Moderator to Moderator and common sense still applies. Obvious trolls will be sprayed with mace, you have been warned.
And that's about all I have for you folks this morning. Be sure to get some rest, you'll be needing it come mid-September!
Later, Cynic <3
