Rangers have an iffy levelling till 19, and even then its slower with your need to kite unless you have an abundance of HP Pots and just Pot Tank everything. What we tended to do on C-Aion was level with dual sword up till 19/25 which is when the ranger really starts to shine, at that point with a decent amount of crit you can do as much damage as a same level Glad.
Can't speak for Sins but the first level 50 character on C-Aion was a Sin, so kind of speaks for itself.

race doesnt really matter but as fare as the assassin ranger thing goes i like the assassin more for pvp and the ranger more for pve because the ranger has ur traps for CC and assassin has hide for destroying ur target in a matter of secs
I have the opposite opinion. Ranger is excellent at taking down single targets in pvp. Assassins are more for straight up pve. If an assassin doesn't kill someone in the initial burst, they will pretty much lose the fight whereas the ranger can continue to kite. The ranger has great pvp cc (sleep and silence) but the assassin only has short-term and unreliable stuns.
Don't let abyss rankings fool you, they just prove that assassins are great at grinding pve mobs in the abyss (sustained damage) and both classes are good at avoiding dying due to stealth and being able to pick their fights.

As a sin I feel pve wise I am better than the rangers in my guild. Though they are not by any means.
For pvp in the early 20s at least, not having range is fucking brutal. Sorc's eat me for breakfest and I just don't see how a well-played ranger can lose (assuming I don't attack them while they are fighting a mob, etc) The melee classes are not easy either, if you don't get lucky, you won't kill a Templar or Cleric. Chanters are doable but one who is quick on the heals will beat you, and Spirit Masters depend on player skill, good ones are very very tough. Glads are about 50/50... they do less damage, but can take a bit more of a beating.
I'm really hoping it gets better in the higher levels when I have better stuns, ambush, and mobility, and I am by far not a noob player.
I almost rolled a Ranger but decided last minute to go Sin... I am kind of regretting it. Hitting ranged classes who have slews of crowd control is a nightmare and I can only imagine how much harder that is going to be when we are flying in the Aybss.
Not trying to be a QQ, but things are this way in the 20s at least.
So take all that with a grain of salt, as things may be different at higher levels, but at this point in the game... my perception.
Edit: Also is it just me or can everyone see through stealth in some way shape or form? It almost never seems to help me.

that will remain debatable until everyone has spent some decent time in the 30s to 40s , maybe ask someone who has experianced koran or chinese aion ? or youtube ?
to your last question.
alot of classes seem to have the ability to area damage you and maybe hit you even if they arnt targeting you.
so standing next to them while stealthed isnt the best idea.
feel free to correct me if im completely wrong

@ Vlossity.
There is a combat radar you can set up to show all skills used by an opposing faction, my legion and I have used it to great effect for a long time, it will tell us if a hidden is close. Also there is a few secs of lag spike just before PvP action starts, so its even more of a buffer, if done right you have most of the time 8~20 secs + of warning before ganked or to allow you to gank.
