Here's a post from the ATI forum that sums up the problem nicely:

Quote

Having read all that I decided to play around with that special Process Explorer they messed around with,
and I watched "Virtual Size" for Aion.bin.

I went to Eltnen Fortress, and saw that the application reserved itself a bigger chunk of Virtual Size, kept running around like crazy watching as many people as possible, and the "Virtual Size" kept going up to almost 2GB.

Then poof, the CrySystem.dll error

Aion.bin reserved itself up to 2 038 952K

The second it tries to increase that size to over 2GB the application closes with the dreaded CrySystem.dll error... That's why it tries to write to adress 00000000 as it's trying to write outside the 2GB boundary, and it's either not allowed by Windows, or it can't handle it itself.

Numerous users have contacted NCSoft and even their video card makers about this issue already, and have been either shrugged off and pointed elsewhere or told completely useless things like "try a different video card." We need everyone to pester NCSoft until they at least acknowledge the problem.

Reducing the memory usage by turning down details will mitigate the crashes but is not an acceptable fix. It'll also be interesting to know if K-Aion has the same issue, as I can't imagine how that got out of beta testing (well, obviously a lot of things did...)

Please only vote if you have taken part in a castle siege.

Just trying to collect some data to see if there's a trend. Based on anecdotes the crashes don't seem to be tied to machine performance, though reducing graphic settings may reduce their frequency. Most of the time they occur with no predictability, as if the client simply gave up. Many people say they don' t recall crashing as frequently in such a situation on C-Aion or K-Aion.

I was crashing with all my details turned low and character models off. Video card's drivers are up to date, as is my OS.

I got 6GB ram, Aion crashes as soon as game reaches 1.7GB ram usage on a castle siege. Yes, I watched its usage from resource monitor as I crashed a lot.

Its probably the symptom of something else, not the cause, but it is quite interesting.

Edit: Vista x64 w/SP2 High end system. Settings doesn't really matter.

I know this has nothing to do with castles, but I crash a lot in Eltnen. That's the only place. Game just shuts down and windows tries to send an error report. =p Just like you said it "just gives up". I think its do to the mass population of ppl there atm though... riding it out to see.

windows 7

Edit: Participated in siege this weekend. Having same problem there as outlined by op.

I crashed every time I tried to go into the main battle with many players present. Aion is normally using 1.4 gigs of memory and goes up to almost 1.8 at the crash. The log report also lists crysystem.dll. I have all my updates for Vista 64 , this only occurs during sieges, making them unplayable. This problem started in version 1.5 afaik, I didn't have these crashes in 1.0 and 1.2

I get constant crashes in any town, any outpost, and siege, and i got ATI w/ 64x high end specs = 2.8G duo etc. i was SP1 and switched to SP2, thought it solved the problem and BOOM i started getting them again. I saw it happen once when i was lookin at my inventory and it had 3 grey boxes where items would be... maybe that could help them figure out what it is....

Constant crashes with an excellent computer. Pretty major problem among ATI users, fail on both ATI and NCsoft. NCsoft has a memory leak problem atm and no announcement on fix, which is awful.

Quick bump.

I never crashed until last night when I *tried* to participate in my first castle siege/defense.

As soon as all the Asmos popped on the screen I froze and crashed.

Set all graphics to minimum/lowest setting and I lasted longer but same end result.

Tried Shift+F12 and lasted longer yet but same end result.

System:

i7 920
6GB Corsair XMS
285 GTX x2 In SLI (just d/led new drivers today so I'll see if that helps)

Hope NCSoft Fixes this soon... or at the very least acknowledges it...

Bump.

This is a x64 OS issue I think.

Vista x64
2 GTX285's
i7 920
8g ram
Average FPS 100 for the first hour, drops hard after that to the 40's
Crashes alot.

Swapped to my
XP 32 bit.
1 GTS 250
3gb ram.
i7 920
Average FPS 100 for 6 hours straight.
NO crashes. (Also get better FPS wtf!)

Both FPS readings were in sanctum crafting area then going to Elten to quest.
Going to swap the 2 280s into the XP system and see if I can get it to crash.
Memory leak with x64 OS it seems to me.

I crash at least 3 times during any given siege. It wouldn't be that big of a problem for me, except that when I log back in I'm on one of the other islands to the south of the forts (wings of siel).

Edit: specs

i7 920
Gtx 285
6 gb RAM
Vista 64

Another interesting thing I noticed is that for some reason, when I check my task manager there are occasionally two or even three instances of aion.bin running. They are each eating up 1.2 gb or more of memory. I always shut down the extras if I see them (the active process uses the most memory).
