This is where I am after 300k+ trying to get it up to atleast +5 using level 30-35 stones. Highest I got was level 3. I'm doing something wrong or something or someone just really hates me. I might aswell just have saved my money until a piercing bow appeared at broker. (This was all when I was level 25-27 btw, I gave up enchanting it after I wasted all the money and no point anymore since I get better bows soon).

I got my Worthy Noble Wrud Bow to +10 using all L36 stones. Only took 12 stones, only one failed.

At earlier levels stones are easy enough to come by, and will succeed often enough for it be worth doing.

Once I hit lvl32+ items stones become harder to come by and very expensive on broker, so i stopped enhancing new items.

Taken from Aion™ Online :: Character & Legion

I think this is wrong and ingame it says 20 magic boost per enchantment level. So it's 400 (+100) really.

I usually disenchant whites and greens from loot, and if the resulting stone is LV30+, there it goes. If it's below, the stone is going to the broker or legion pals.

It was changes some time in preorder phase.
Every enchant level gives +20 mboost instead of the former +10 now.

Somehow enchanting works strange for me. I only succeed using lower enchantment stones. Made my 35 blue shield + 1 with a lvl 30 enchant stone for instance. Basically it's all luck, and my luck is quite close to 0 with enchanting :p

Upgrading shields does help for the extra dmg reduction, as does helping upgrading weapons for the extra damage. I don't really upgrade my armors much, because it doesn't really help that much.

id say its worth the effort to enchant a good shield if youre a templar, or a gold weapon if youre lucky enough to get one
other than shield/weapons i hardly see any point to enchant anything else unless you have massive amounts of kinah wich i doubt anyone that dont buy it would have

as for the chances, its weird, but i guess its just my luck.. went on a broker rampage, bought like 20 lvl 45+ stones to enchant my new shield, all failed..
then i disenchanted 2 pieces of my old gear, got 4 low lvl stones and enchanted it to +4.. so ya go figure

I was always under the impression there was a range of stones ideal for any enchantment. I.e. for a 25 green 10-15 is ideal, below or above that increases the chance of failure. But everyone has been saying the higher the better which doesn't seem to be true.

My +100 Magic Boost on a Tome says that it's worth it.

You sure that link to enchanting guide is accurate?
I enchanted my lvl 25 crafted Koa bow assuming I only needed +5 lvls on the enchantment stones (I mainly used stones +5 to +8). But according the guide I would need +8 to even get a 50% chance to succeed (and quite abit higher to actually not fail half unless I was extremely lucky).
So either I was extremely lucky, or the chance to succeed is quite abit higher than 50% with +8 enchantment stone for a crafted bow...

You can find enchantment stones all the way up to level 80+, you just have to disenchant a similar item to get them (so for 70+ stones, you need to disenchant 50 golds... suffice it to say they aren't easy to get).

It's not quite that hard to obtain high level stones. There was plenty 70+ stones in China when the level cap was level 45. Btw, enchanted items, and items with manastones, yield higher level stones than an item with nothing. Good rule of thumb is that if you disenchant all your white/some green drops, keep those crappy manastones you will never use, and socket them into the item before you disenchant it. Usually it will give you a higher stone than usual, of course there is still a chance to not get a higher one.
