Icons you've been seeing RMT spammers use in chat are a commonly used feature in the asian versions of aion.

The way it works is the Aion chat system, sees the unicode character like U+E002 and replaces it with an icon it holds in its texture buffer.

Apparently the asians have been able to use their IME input method to insert these codes, but its something I could not replicate.

For the time being, you'll have to resort to copy pasting the squareboxes you find on this page into your memo pad :

http://www.aionsourc...=1&d=1255410666

ishida >> utilities: Unicode name lister

From there you can insert them into your macro.

One particular thing I use them for is to indicate what the marks mean that I'll be using while tanking.

I expect any dps to be using the equivilant /selectbrand macro to target the first in the kill order and the designated CC person to use the /selectbrand 7 for targeting the mob i want put to sleep.

Method 1
Individual icons are listed here : ishida >> utilities: Unicode name lister
Copying the sqaure boxes into chat will give you an icon.

Method 2
1. Visit this page : Unicode code converter [ishida >> utilities]
2. find the fourth text field on the page, labeled : "Percent encoding for URIs"
3. paste the following into it.
%EE%80%81%EE%80%82%EE%80%83%EE%80%84%EE%80%85%EE%80%86%EE%80%87%EE%80%88%EE%80%89%EE%80%8A%EE%80%8B%EE%80%8C%EE%80%8D%EE%80%8E%EE%80%8F%EE%80%90%EE%80%91%EE%80%92%EE%80%93%EE%80%94%EE%80%95%EE%80%96%EE%80%97%EE%80%98%EE%80%99%EE%80%9A%EE%80%9B%EE%80%9C%EE%80%9D%EE%80%9E%EE%80%9F%EE%80%A0%EE%80%A1%EE%80%A2%EE%80%A3%EE%80%A4%0A
4. click the convert button on that field.
5. copy the line of square boxes that appeared in either of the two fields above
6. paste into your memo pad, macro or chat edit box.

Method 3
Supposedly you can use these codes by making use of the IME input method on your keyboard.

Quote

1. Press the Enter key activates the chat window.
2. Hold down the Right Alt key, the right of the keypad to enter the 55,566, emoticons unique number (71,72, etc.) to enter.

Example: To use emoticons, 71 times Alt + 55566 + 71 and then in the hands Alt.
(ALT key and click the phone number you think is the input.)

3. The following numbers corresponding to the chat window, and then this happens emoticons.
I couldn't get this to work, all it would give me in the chat frame is letters.

credit to : Treb for illuminating how this was done.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I was previously under the impression that it was only possible to use symbols in Aion if you had a hacked Korean version of the client, but after using the symbol text file provided by Mei+ above I was able to paste the symbols into the game with no trouble at all!

I have added these to my memo pad :)

Edited to add: I have also found (so far) that a handful of regular Unicode symbols work. Attached is a file I have of what works so far. Put these on your memo pad and you can also copy and paste them ;)

I will be speaking to NCWest about this tomorrow just incase they're planning on implementing a chat filter for gold spammers that includes these symbols, last thing we need is members getting banned as gold spammers hahah.

I placed the symbols into my tanking macro, and tested it. The next day when I logged on they had been turned into ? marks. Not sure if was something I did wrong, or it's just nature of the beast. Hopefuly we will know what the (slash) code is copy pasting every day is a little sloppy.

PS. thanks for this information I find posting the symbols in group chat keeps a pug awake and orginized.

Sorry, macro is not saved with Unicode.
Workaround:
  • In macro, use variable:
    [%Variable0]

  • In Memo Pad, set variable:
    /Variable 0 ICON_GOES_HERE

  • When you start Aion, copy set variable line from Memo Pad, paste into chat, press "Enter". Now variable is set and macro works.

Also-
Typing icons with Windows 7 x64 (tested and did not work on Windows 7 x86):
  • Hold "Alt" (left or right, does not matter)
  • Type on Numpad(right part of keyboard): 061555
  • Release "Alt"
  • Again, hold "Alt" (left or right, does not matter)
  • Type icon code on Numpad(right part of keyboard): icon code is number between 64(Kina) and 100(Silver Medal)
  • Release "Alt"

Special Note 1: Using above method, kina icon can not be first character typed in chat. Different character must come first. If chat is empty, type anything before typing kina icon.

Special Note 2: When Aion get focus, it sometimes ignore first keystroke. If switching focus between Aion and browser, make sure keystroke is not ignored or typing icon will fail.

Hope this helps!

I had no trouble using symbols in my Aion Macro's at all, I'm not sure why others are having trouble.

I pasted all the symbols (from the attachment in the second post of this thread) into my Aion Memo Pad, then copied and pasted the symbols themselves into my various Aion Macro's. They work perfectly and I've had no problems so far.

I would excercise caution when using these symbols in general chat situations though. People normally have a knee jerk reaction to seeing symbols at the moment (i.e. they assume you are a gold spammer and block you). If too many people block you, it raises a flag with NCSoft GM's and they may look into applying a ban based on the number of people who have blocked you.

Being too lazy to read this all but wanting to use two kinahs to look like QQ, do I just paste the kinah thing in chat twice? Like, is there a tl;dr for this that can be summarized in a single sentence?

I have the TXT file with the boxes, so just paste one of those into Aion?

They work, but they don't save. Close Aion, run Aion, icons in Macro are now "?".

That's not true at all! All my macro's have saved and are working perfectly! I'm serious, I have had no trouble using the icons in my macro's whatsoever. I'm not sure why you are getting ??? but I don't have that problem, mine save and I can use them when I close/open Aion without any problems.

This is how I used the icons in my macro's:

1. I copied the full icon list from your post into my Aion Memo Pad (Community > Memo Pad)
2. I then copied the individual icon I wanted from the Memo Pad and pasted it into the speech text of my Macro.
3. I saved the Macro and used it without any problems.

For example, I made a macro that says "/General You're welcome [%Target] :) :)" to use after I resurrect or randomly heal people to save me typing when I'm being thanked a lot. The icons work for me.

Very interesting! Macro is saved on server, not client. But it doesn't save for me! T___T
I thought x64 OS is sending characters differently maybe. But today I installed x86 OS and still it doesn't save! I will test more and post if I learn anything. -___-

Smee, this isn't [How to] Icons in Chat

This is a [Nerd showing off] Icons are using Unicode

A [How to] Wouldn't make you chase around the internet to figure stuff out. They would explain the steps.

Your step 1:
A list of unicode features. No explanation on how they get in the game.

Your step 2:
"5. copy the line of square boxes that appeared in either of the two fields above"

A lot of lines came up.. with a lot of square boxes. Can we narrow it down here?

From the "Character's" output is what you should include somewhere here.

Your step 3.
Post your source. You haven't figured it out. Allow us to.

Quote

You sir are the reason Linux fails. Guides like this. You have explained nothing to the common user except that the game uses unicode. Great!

Dude, come on... Make your guides more user friendly.

While it's very nice to know that you've found out that NCSoft is using Unicode, this doesn't explain how I hit a combination of numbers or letters on my keyboard and input it into chat.

You did all that work typing this well thought out post, but didn't explain anything that a normal human being, who doesn't sit behind unicode all day would understand.

Omalina, how about you tone your criticism down to say....a step below nuclear? I found your criticism offensive and it wasn't even directed at me lol. Seriously, try to think how you would feel if you posted something you thought was helpful in the best way you knew how...and got a response like yours.

Airtonix was the first to post this sort of information and share it for the rest of us to learn from. I for one learnt something new and I'm grateful he took the time to post it, even if it wasn't perfect.
