Would love a version of this more focused on performance, especially when it comes to Sieges.
Currently, with these settings, my FPS gets scattered all over the place and it never gets to be very high.

EDIT:
Vsync was turned off. Turning it on stabilized the FPS spikes a little bit.

Also reduced particle count. Hopefully that will help.

EDIT:
Also changed the Anti-Aliasing value. This one definitely helped.

Hopefully someone can make a config that gives great fps with average eye candy instead of 100% performance.

Thank you for this guide, I've seen some vast improvements with the textures and graphics. Though I'm now having a problem that's only slightly irritating: My system preferences aren't be saved, so every time I change the settings to audio it resets with each login. Any reason for this?

This is exactly what I've needed! One thing I am having problems with though.

I put the settings you recommended at the beginning into note pad and saved them as system.ovr like you said. When I delete the system.cfg file and place the .ovr file into Aion's folder, the new settings are over-riden and the .cfg just pop back up once Aion is started up. That seems to be the issue at the moment.

I know the system.ovr file is not working because I'll press PauseBreak and nothing will happen. You said that the console would show up in a green, text box so I am basing my observations on what you said would happen.

I apologize if you have the solution to this in your post. Its kind of late over here and I'm trying this before I go to bed. ><

Be sure you are running Aion as Administrator, and be sure the file is correctly named system.ovr, not system.ovr.txt or anything.

Just tried running Aion in Administrator mode. Nothing. Pause Break didn't work, and when I exited the game the website still came back.

Here is a picture.

The 2 files... sc_renew.dat and sc_renew_local.dat

Delete those, they cause problems. Everything should be fine after you delete them. If you wish you can make a backup of them in a different drive.

Aleste, his file is a .txt file -.-. "Text Document". Enable common extensions in Map Options, and you'll see the file's full name is system.ovr.txt. Or just go into the file, and do File -> Save as -> System.ovr

Good point Ema, 1 point for you.

seeing the sc_renew files took my attention, they interfere with system.cfg creation, so its still better if he get rid of them.

Yeah, I didn't realize that capitalizing the S in the beginning of system would do the trick. Thanks a lot for the help. :)

Thanks for your guide.

I thought it might be worth mentioning the function that turns on "Display FPS". It took me a few guesses to find this option :)

g_showFPS = 1 (in the system.ovr file)
\g_showFPS 1 (in-game console)

Also I have a couple of questions:

1. How do you uncompress the text in the original system.cfg file to get the list of pre-set settings?

I want to be able to (first) setup my preferred graphics settings (in-game), then compare files to see which settings are changed by some of the in-game options (eg Bloom, Shadows), and then create a couple of full-featured cfg files (solo-high-quality/fortress-performance-mode) that I could roll into batch files for starting the game with.

2. Is there any console command that returns a list of available commands?
3. Is there any console command that returns the current settings? (essentially the same kind of output I want from question 1 above)

Again, thanks for the guide my friend, I'm already loving my new graphics settings, and the *coolest* ability to set the "Display FPS" option automagically :cool:

Hey Aleste,

What kind of system are you running? So i can compare whether I should make some settings lower or higher.

i see this "bug" only first run game with this new settings.. no more..
and im not breaking your words, i say exactly same "you dont making zoomhack, this is only simple graphic tweak".. maybe you understand me wrong.. sorry.. my english is little lame.

I just read this post, no need to feel sorry CZ. I don't use smilies much so perhaps my words seemed abit offensive, don't mind me.

@Illu

Pretty average system, 2.53 E7200 Core2 Duo / 4096mb system Ram / Geforce 9600GS 738mb / XP 32-Bit / WD-500Gb HDD

However, the settings list in the Guide isn't quiet optimized for any spec. It will take testing from multiple users until we have a good understanding of which settings actually do a visible difference, which simply eat performance, and whats the highest effective value for each.

I,l be adding an extra list of settings to the OP, most will be for testing sake.

Seems like a great thing u are doing.
But im wondering;
Will this improve my FPS if i try this sort of stuff out?
Currently i dont really have much probz with my FPS (except in town's when its crowded, it drops down to 40-50~)
Normally 130~ fps or so.

Thats on a Duall core 2x 3.0 gig, with an ati radeon hd 4850 vapor-x 512mb.
Playing on 1920x1080 resolution.
Got my AA @ 0. Shadows/water @ 0. Object range half, rest is pretty much high.
Oh and my shader is turned to half.

Would u advice me to try out the above mentioned? The file u created.

Dalavita, make your own batch program to rename the file depending on the configuration wanted, so the file will be used when needed and when not.

Thank you, but it doesn't work :cry: Btw. Aion looks very nice with some of option, but its annoying that you must optimized it every time when you launch game :angry:
