tl;dr Go to the web translator by Nya (Updated with corrected translation) or download the program off this post (Currently based off flawed tables for Asmodians) below and start talking to the enemy. Yes I broke with tradition by putting the tl;dr first.

Update 12/20: Fixed a few minor errors in the posted tables, thanks to testing by Isceroth. (The underlying formula was sound, it was just a data input error on my part adding the color codes to the post.) For now the program will translate Asmodian's talking to Elyos slightly incorrectly, however Nya's web translator has been updated to offer correct translations.

This was originally a reply to Dejh's thread. However, I think this warrants better than the bottom of page 3 so I figured I'd create a new thread.

Credit where credit is due, the tables Dejh created were a huge step in being able to do this. I doubt I would have gotten so far so quickly without that groundwork already laid out. For those paying attention, you will notice the initial table for both sides is identical to the first option to type from Dejh's tables. I also couldn't have done it without the large group of Elyos who were standing around chatting after they wiped my rifting group while I just sat around and listened. Similarly, a big thank you to the group of Asmodians who were nice and chatty around the Elyos I created to find out how it works the other way.

Saying whole words is a little more complex than saying individual letters. However it is easier to read and looks better than t a l k i n g l i k e t h i s. It can be hard to follow these steps by hand, so if you are struggling with it, you can use one of the tools linked above either online or off.

To use these tables, every time you start a new word (Or really have a break in the word, such as the "t" in don't) start at the initial table for the race you want to talk to, look up the letter you want to say on the first line, type the letter you see on the second line (Case matters!) then for the next letter, use the table indicated by the third line. Repeat this for each letter in the word, then start over for the next word.

Anything besides letters (Punctuation, numbers, etc) you just type as is and it will get passed as you typed it. Whenever you do, start over at the initial table for the next letter.

Everything you say will have the first character capitalized if it is a letter (If it is punctuation, the first letter will be lower case) and the rest will be lower case. (If you say Hello it will come across like that, but "hello" with the quotes would be all lower case)

For Asmodians talking to Elyos:

As an example, lets say you are Asmodian and want to say to the Elyos "You won't beat me!" For "You" you'll start on the initial table and type "d" for y, then move to table 2. Looking up o in table 2 you type "p" then move on to table 1. In table 1 you want to type "y" for u, resulting in the first word being "dpy". Remember, case matters, those are all lower case letters.

Next for "won't". Starting over again at the initial table, you type "f" for w and move to table 2. In table 2, you type "p" for o and move to table 1. In table 1, you type "r" for n. At this point you type the apostrophe which starts the next letter over at the initial table, so you type "c" for t. The second word is "fpr'c".

Following the same steps the third word is "kiet", starting with the initial table then 3 letters from table 1. The fourth word is "vi" again using the initial table followed by table 1.

So if an Asmodian says "dpy fpr'c kiet vi!" the Elyos will see "You won't beat me!".

Note that these tables only give one possible way to say things to the other side. There are numerous things you could type which would all come out the same. "NZF fZU'E MMft BM!" and "Npy HqT'E MkGv XL!" would also be seen as "You won't beat me!". However it is not really necessary to give the full list of what you could type, because it all comes out the same on the other side.

This is quite interesting. I'd love to try it out, but unless an Elyos responds I'll never know if it works. Oh well :p

That's actually how I knew I was getting it right - when I payed a visit to Eltnen with a shout macrod up, and some Elyos actually stopped and responded. One even asked to pose with me for a screen shot... I was amused enough by the request I obliged.

I also tried a little subterfuge during a fortress siege by shouting out that another fortress they controlled was under attack as we were approaching the door. An Elyos shouted back that both fortresses were being attacked and were probably going to get rolled. (They were, and they did - I don't think the attempted subterfuge actually had any effect though.)

Hi, I've already posted this little .NET app on the other thread, but I'm going to post it here too.

Very useful indeed! I wonder if there might be some way to make it usable without alt-tabbing out... Maybe have it work with the clipboard text or something. And I'll vouch for the program for those concerned about downloading and running it - it does exactly as claimed, no more no less.

I did run a few quick tests and there seems to be some errors in your tables or the interpretation. Specifically it doesn't translate the letter "z" at all and just passses it as a z. Aside from that the translations look as sound as my knowledge of the languages is. I'm not 100% sure my tables are entirely right as there are a couple krall phrases that I don't translate properly, but I haven't found any elyos or asmodian that I have a problem with yet.

BTW my test phrase was the classic "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
To Elyos: cii zymck kvoas oob syqps tziv cii qeJJ iog.
To Asmodian: zih yxlfn hsrzo lry pxpqv wwhs zih rdac jrj.
It was the word "lazy" that gave the problems.

Now the application will open on the Tray bar, and any time you copy a string on the clipboard starting with "/tr" it will translate it to the currently selected language :)

To test it you can open the application, open notepad and type: /tr The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Then copy the whole line and paste.. it should paste the translated text ;)

IMPORTANT: This program does not tamper with the client in any way, it just uses the windows clipboard.

Very clever way to do it! I was trying to mess around with windows hotkeys, and got as far as figuring out how to register a hotkey and spent a couple hours trying to come up with a good way to configure a hotkey. But this is so simple yet effective!

However, there seems to be an attachment missing.

Apparently I had a slight flaw in my formula, but it did not effect any of the published tables, just some of the alternative choices.

Tiaga, I removed the attachment by accident. I'm placing it on this post again, however, I'm not quite sure using this application could not lead to a ToS infringement, since we are not supposed to communicate to the oposing faction.

I for one, haven't used it in-game, just tested it on notepad.

To test it you can open the application, open notepad and type: /tr The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Then copy the whole line and paste.. it should paste the translated text

IMPORTANT: This Application does not tamper with the game client in any way, it uses the Windows Clipboard to translate. However, using this app might be in contradiction with the ToS (since being able to talk to the other faction is not the way the game was intended to be), and it might be considered a reason for banning. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

As far as TOS, your guess is as good as mine. However it can't be any more against the TOS than using private stores to communicate.

Its against the TOS to use any 3rd party program, no?

However, I dont see this as any worse of a 3rd party program than vent.

Lastly, using the tables provided in the OP, you could do this on your own. So, unless they scan your system for that program, they cant tell if you are just really quick at decoding, or using the program.

Whatever, I still say its no worse than vent, since you arent hacking.

But seeing as how the only interface to the client is copy&paste, if it's a 3rd party program to assist chatting, then so is notepad. I think the chatting part is written to target spam clients and such. It actually doesn't say anything about chatting with the other side.

My friend tried this, and he has Win7 64bit

It works on 32 bit, but doesn't seem to work on 64bit memory space.

i will definetly use this to scare some elyos :D


though, unless ncsoft is ok with this (i'd doubt it), they will simply change the algorithm to prevent this way of translation...

hopefully the siege crash issues will keep them busy for a while yet :p

I doubt it is against the ToS because it was a matter of time before people would guess what the other race is saying.

Cabal Online was a good example, "hello" would look like "3p))k" so people eventually picked up on it and used to to talk back.

My guess is if they have a problem with it, they'll just change how the garbling is done. But if they do that with private stores still readable by the other side, there won't be much point. Of course, if all they do is change the language numbers, I can create a new table very quickly as soon as I have a brief sample of garbled speech from each side to examine. If it's still a deterministic cypher of the letters using a different method, then it would be a matter of figuring out what that is. The only thing that would totally block this is if they made it purely random.

To be honest, I think the reason they did it the way they did isn't so that people could decode it eventually, but to give it at least a little sensical property. That is to say, when an Asmodian says "you" it will come across as "toq" to the elyos every time (Assuming it's lower case). Rather than, something like "Do you know what you are doing?" having two different translations for "you".

And for anyone curious, this definitely works. I was on a low level alt the other day, and saw a red dot, so instinctively attacked. My hits just bounced off, and they were rank 4, so I quickly figured out it was futile and stopped, then said "I guess I don't want to do that..." It caught his attention, so rather than let me try to run then one shot me like he planned (And did eventually) we were chatting for a good hour or two.
