As some of you know, I've been playing in the Korean OB as a Chanter, I reached level 25, participated in all of the stuff possible, mass pvps, raids, quests, everything, so, if you have questions about chanters pre-26, I have the answers!

Feel free to ask me whatever you want to know ^^

Yeah, it's fun, you can switch roles in a second and I like that in my classes.

Does race affect the type of chants you do or the strength of different chants? I was wondering if it is like the Bard class in FFXI.

That's something I didn't get to test by myself, obviously, as I was only asmodian, but I think the Divine Power effects are the only ones that differ from race to race, the rest are the same.

Did you mostly solo or grouped to level and how fast you gain to 26 (was grind more like L2 or WoW)?

I could have reached 26 in about 6-8 hours if I had the time, the leveling curve is far from the L2 one, I can see myself getting to the level cap in a month or less.

And I soloed/duo'd mostly, groupped for the group areas tho, since the experience ratio there is pretty good and since the group based quests could give me 30% easily.

Reminder tho, this thread is for chanters questions only ;)

How do chanters hold up in PVP?

Do they solo well?

Do you think this will be a class direly needed in raid groups and stuff? (Like, would they be a vital/very important part to a group who wants to get a lot done.)

There are different kind of buffs:

Aura ones: Everyone in your party who is around you (20m range) gets the aura. They don't consume any MP.
Lasting buffs: You can give those to anybody, in or out of party, those last 1 hour.
Self buffs: You can only buff yourself with those. The level 20 stygma from the quest is one of them.

You can only keep 2 auras up, these auras are quite different, so it will come down to party optimization, if you party with mages, you will use the m.atk aura and the mana aura, if you party with fighters, you will use the p.atk and maybe the critical one, if you're with the tank in a raid, you might want to keep the HP aura and the defense one.

With 2 chanters you can get 4 auras up. One detail, there might be a way to get more than 2 auras up, but I didn't find anything like that, this is what I could experience, take it with a grain of salt.

@ Caibre:

1v1 we are almost unbeatable if you know how to play. 1 vs many, possible. Chanters are pretty good in pvp.

They solo well, it's a nonstop killing, but we kill waaaaay slower than the main DPS classes. In PvP our damage seems like boosted comparing it to PvE.

It's a necessary class, a Chanter is able to add damage when the situation is calmed, but they can also switch for a healing setup if the situation gets complicated, which is common in social mobs areas. Our buffs are truly helpful in both PvE and PvP.

We get a counter attack, whenever you parry (I think, not sure) a skill pops up in your screen, it's a stun, and it has a long cooldown (once every 2 mobs or so when soloing).

We also get an upgrade of our hot, which healed me for 50/tick, an upgrade from the second branch of our main skill chain (the one that hits) an HP aura I think (didn't use it a lot tbh) an upgrade to our defense chant (the blue) and that's about it iirc.

Level 19 chain green armor http://i37.tinypic.com/20qz8kz.jpg

Didn't upgrade my gear anymore, at level 23 there's a blue set I couldn't get (too expensive) and at level 25 there's a white set which is actually worse than the level 22 green.

It seemed a bit slower than assassins/gladiators, for example, but way safer, which is pretty convenient economicaly speaking. Anyways, I realized a bit too late that I was able to kill mobs 3/4 levels above me in an almost non-stop way, while the rest of the classes (excepting cleric) can't. If I realized sooner, I would have leveled way faster. I ended up the beta killing level 27/28 mobs with ease in the lava pit of tier 3.

Does that new stun skill last longer than the other ones. I could stun a monster or player for only like 2-3 sec's, it was far too short a time to do anything ?

Enough to place yourself at the enemies back to get a better crit chance with 2 hits, I think this one also has a chance for your enemy to miss target (get even more time at his back).

Can we still be good in pvp while using staff? I prefer staff over a shield.

I'd recommend having both and an ingame macro for switching, since you go from healing to DDing in a matter of seconds, it's the best. Just look at the situation, if the health bars are controlled perfectly by your party cleric, get the staff out and add to the damage, if your party's healer is in troubles with all that damage, switch to shield/maze and heal.
