...Would people feel the need to defend them a lot more fiercely?

only people who care about Player Housing are PvE carebears.
Fort defenses = PvP.

So no. It would not. PvE carebears would still be too scared to step into the abyss.

Not true about the PvE carebears >_>

If you could own a house, consider it an expansion on your warehouse. You could have more storage for all your stuff for example. Possible crafting location outside of Sanctum/Pandemonium as well?

I loved housing in old DAoC. Oh, and the housing in UO? I wouldn't call that carebear.

I'm not quite familiar with daoc or UO but houses that have storage crafting and pvp viewing of battles in the abyss would be a cool feature :)

Housing in UO was a bit crazy, if for nothing else, the land grabbing for property that was so desired some of it was ebayed. And then there were the times when someone didn't lock their house. Good times.

Housing isnt just a PvE thing necessarily. It can be applied to a variety of different uses as it has before.

Unfair generalisation. I like player housing and I like PvP. Would I feel more of an urge to defend forts if it was the only way to get to my house...yes, but then that wouldn't make sense anyway.

However...instanced housing zones that are open to PvP too...I could PvP whilst defending my neighbourhood! :skip:

would be cool if u could move guards around ^^

most of them are useless in defense, i'd bunch up all the snipers above the gate and stick the rest around the guardian. think that'd make defending worthwhile ^__^

I have a few ideas I am preparing to post that I think would do a great deal in motivating the populace into taking and defending the Fortresses, regardless whether or not you are a casual or hard core player all without having to make any major changes to the game overall.

I am a pretty hardcore pvper. And I love player housing. I don't think player housing access should be linked to fortress possession though. The fact that some people see no problem with it doesn't mean that holds for the majority of the population. For the health of the game, it's better to keep more people playing, and add unrestricted quality of life features.

Fortresses ARE a problem. I for one am pretty unmotivated to go there. Apart from the massive zerg (does not appeal to me), the chances of me getting any reward out of it are slim. I'm a templar... making the top of the damage list is a bit of a pipe dream.
