Getting AP fast and easy, gearing your little killing machine up the easy way!
1. About AP Gain - Efficiency vs. Convenience
Rifting vs. Abyss: Why not the abyss?
Several reasons that will come up with twinking an assassin is how to gain the fastest AP. There is absolutely no dispute that rifts are the best, fastest, and most bountiful AP gain you can get, PERIOD. - Solo kills range from 150 to as much as 600 AP per solo kill! Of course, with each method of gaining AP there comes the risk of dying, or getting zerged, or getting stomped by a really high level babysitter...and so on and so on.
Lets look at the circumstances: a lot of people on this game simply don't care for PVP! They will sit in Eltnen, or Morheim, or even Brusth/Theobomos to avoid it, they see the abyss and think they will get trounced by griefers all day. And they're right. While AP gains aren't half bad in the abyss even just killing mobs, player kills are few and far between, and most of the players you'll encounter will be lvl 40+ as most people in the abyss would rather farm guards than each other.
Another reason not to farm AP in the abyss, as a melee class whose key abilities dont work in aerial combat, you put yourself at a grave disadvantage. Sure we can fight in the air, sure we can win in the air, the problem is its not convenient. Its going to take ten times the effort, and probably will be impossible until you've mastered aerial combat. Even then, the sparse player encounters will just slow your AP gain down, especially when you spend most of your time chasing and praying for a bow stun proc that never happens. Its doable, but why bog yourself down?
In particular, you will want to aim for Eltnen if you are Asmodian, and Morheim if you are Elysian. This is where the largest bulk of players will congregate their alts (and beware, their lv 50 mains :...:)
Guard Farming
While I say abyss is not the optimal AP, there is one way to gain easy AP (and kinah!) and that is by farming the guards nearby fortresses. However, even guards pale in comparison to player killing. I can gain 15k-20k AP in the duration of a 2 hour kisk in Eltnen, guards could take an hour or two just for 10k, assuming no interruptions, no saturation of farmers (you are the only one farming), and you have little downtime. Seeing as this is vaguely impossible, guard farming will still be much slower overall.
Of course, if people frequently show up to try and gank you while guard farming, and you happen to manage and kill them all, you can find guard farming to be very worth it (i.e. a r4 feeding you ap as you farm guards). Even still, you have a lot of other factors to keep in mind, namely saturation. I only resort to guard farming when I cannot get into Elysia.
Disclaimer
Gaining AP quickly is not for the weak assassin. Gear will play an integral role in your ability to kill players, and your mileage may vary based on your skills and your ability to adapt to dynamic PVP, handle multiple opponents, and be heavily reliant on your escape maneuvers. However, gear will come as you gain AP, and once you get a few pvp pieces you'll be destroying people left and right.
Of course, having a high level main with lots of money to fund your twinking efforts will help enormously, you can still pull it off with little to no starting cash. For example, my asmo sin started rifting at level 30 with nothing more than some greens and crafted blues thanks to a little starter cash from a guildie (~3m tops), this didn't last very long but I had some okay blue crafted weapons to kick off my foray into rifting.
2. Preparation
Consumables, consumables, consumables
Nothing will help you more, no piece of gear will aid your quest for abyss gear more than your arsenal of consumables. Here are my suggestions for what you MUST bring to every rift run.
Aion Armory Item
These are just as handy as serums, and notably cheaper. I always use these to fight classes that I can tank with their help, or just while running when a burst heal of a serum is not needed. Use these first if you feel like you have the room to, they will always be cheaper than their beefier counterparts. For earlier level ranges you can use the downgraded "Greater" versions of these to save even more kinah. But this is the tip top in health consumables.
Aion Armory Item
These will give you a burst heal when you need to get your HP out of the red and survive possible burst damage incoming. Use at your discretion, these tend to be at least 2x the price of the normal pots. If you farm them, though, chug away!
Aion Armory Item
DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS. If you go rifting without 30% speed scrolls, you will get caught. Your speed is your survivability! Maximize your speed before anything else!
Aion Armory Item
We are not that mana intensive, but we will need a refresher at times, especially when we're on the run and our sprint is eating away at what little mana we have. For this I use a good balance of value and effectiveness...on my server these sell for ~400 a pop, you can get 100 for 40k and believe me, you will not need anything bigger than these as long as you manage your mana efficiently. They also let me cruise around at full speed when I feel lazy. They're cheap, they're yummy, and effective.
Aion Armory Item
Another must-have for any PVP, obviously. These will remove 2 debuffs, and get you out of trouble a LOT. Useful to escape slows, roots, and save yourself from the dreaded cleric 4k DP. Bring LOTS of these. The lesser versions only remove 1 debuff.
Optionals
Aion Armory Item
Optional, this will save you from low level aether's hold abilities and templar pulls. Most notably templar pulls will screw you over the most in chase scenarios. If you don't have a dodge up, these will save your life but I have gotten away without needing them so far. I use them primarily to avoid Aether's Hold from sorcerors without needing to waste FE or Aethertwisting, but some better geared sorcs will blow through them and do at least the 1 dmg needed to throw you up in the air. So beware, and decide whether they are worth the extra expense to you.
Aion Armory Item
Attack speed is nice, but these will get costly very quickly. If you have the kinah to fund these, go for it...especially if you take on 1vX encounters you will need to kill your first target as quickly as you can, so the speed will go a long way in that respect. For the most part, you wont need them though.
Aion Armory Item (Asmodian)
Aion Armory Item (Elyos)
Also costly, but 50 acc/crit will help you a lot. They last 30 min, as well. If you spam them, you'll be able to cruise around with less crit and socket more attack power (~15-20 more to be exact, or even more!)
Aion Armory Item
If you're really hardcore and ballin it up on a main, grab a few of these for major emergencies. They will turn a fight 180 degrees in an instant, but they're on a long cooldown as well as being somewhat expensive per use.
Aion Armory Item
While DP is easy to gain from your ganking, sometimes you may be without 2k or 3k DP when you really need it the most. It isn't necessarily crucial that you carry jelly but keep some handy and you'll always have your DP ready for an emergency!
Kisks
Aion Armory Item
Carry several of these with you. I usually carry 3 per night, as I often will rift for about 4 hours a night for AP. You can carry more, but rest assured you will want to stay out there as long as you can. If your kisk is discovered and killed, or if it runs out, you will be able to just drop another one down and keep trucking. Never have any less than one on you at any given time, just in case. They run about 38k each, and last 2 hours unless someone kills them. They have a 30 minute cooldown per use, so do not plant them recklessly or you'll be stuck without any backup rift for a while.
Also note that you can only rez 18 times at your group kisk. This should not be an issue though unless you repeatedly run into guard camps or high levels...but I have never had a kisk expire from too much rezzing yet. If you rift with a partner obviously this gets notably more likely to happen as your group size increases and people are blowing through the rez allowance. This is primarily why i prefer solo rifting.
3. Rifts

Identifying Rifts
The first thing you'll need to start rifting, obviously, is a rift!...but you'll need to know all the rift locations, and which ones lead to the most favorable spots for you to farm from, or to safely set up your kisk.
Asmodian Rifts (Connect to same letter on Eltnen map):

A - Max Level 28 - 12 uses
B - Max Level 32 - 20 uses
C - Max Level 36 - 35 uses
D - Max Level 37 - 35 uses
E - Max Level 40 - 45 uses
F - Max Level 40 - 50 uses
G - Max Level 45 - 50 uses
Elyos Rifts (Connect to same number on Morheim map):

1 - Max Level 28 - 12 uses
2 - Max Level 32 - 20 uses
3 - Max Level 36 - 35 uses
4 - Max Level 37 - 35 uses
5 - Max Level 40 - 45 uses
6 - Max Level 40 - 50 uses
7 - Max Level 45 - 50 uses
Levels and Rifting
Some of the rifts above are very convenient, and while you may be tempted to level faster to become more powerful, there are some things to keep in mind.
- As your level increases, the number of rifts you can use decreases
- Less available rifts = less convenience in farming AP
- Being higher level you will become limited in where you'll find targets that give AP without cursing you
- Being higher level, there are more targets that can make you lose ap when you die (Dying to a level 40 player at level 30 will never make you lose AP, however dying to a zerg of level 40s at level 40, will.)
Also note which of the above rifts I've highlighted in red. These are rifts that drop you off in terrible places, and are pretty much useless to your efforts in farming AP efficiently. Namely, rifts that put you in a spot that leaves parts of the rest of the map inaccessible. This mainly includes the asmodian rift to the elyos side fire temple (can only escape with a revive crystal), and the Eracus temple (completely blocked off).
Finding the Rift
When you zone into Eltnen or Morheim, a distinct message will indicate that there is a rift up in the zone to the other continent. If you see "A one way rift connected to Elysia has appeared", you know there is a rift up. Now the problem is...which? If no rift is up, then you can save yourself the time of searching.
First way to find the rift, is ask in /1 chat, often times someone will have noted its existence and will kindly tell you where it is. Other times, people just won't check or might not know, so you'll have to do the footwork yourself. First of all, any number of rifts can be up at the same time, whenever a rift spawns, often times there will be more than one up, or they may only be one up. It is completely random.
Also, rifts will respawn and shift every 2 hours. If no rift is up, check back in an hour or so, and every hour till one is up. Only check rift locations that you can access (depending on your level of course), and only locations that you WANT to access (not the ones highlighted in red). I highlighted tricky ones to escape from in orange...these include locations that are full of elites or may require a bit of effort to get out of alive.
4. Levelling to Rift
As I said earlier, levelling is both strengthening your staying power in rift PVP, but also a hindrance. The higher level you are, the less people you can kill safely without getting yourself cursed. Ariel's Curse is applied to you if you kill too many low level players (or, you can actually become cursed killing people that aren't lowbies but it can take upwards of 200 kills to actually get to this point). Once you are cursed, your fun is pretty much over. You will be visible on the map as a little orange skull, and everyone will be after you. You can't even hide, people will see your icon move around and camp you until you pop your head out.
So to increase your grinding efficiency, as carebear as this might sound, don't kill lowbies indiscriminately. You only hinder your own AP gain by cursing yourself...though level masking might make it hard to tell who is a lowbie and who is not. Use your better judgement, or as I do, use a 2nd monitor and check the player's level if you aren't sure! Typically people running around with rank 9-8 are lowbies (lv 22-28 or so)...people that've seen some abyss action may be as high as rank 5 or 6...with the occasional rank 4. Be absolutely careful of rank, as many people in their high 30s and low 40s are spending AP so may infrequently be of lower rank. Rank is not a promise but its a good indicator most of the time. Also, the fancier someone looks, the more likely it is they are high level.
Rank 3 or higher is almost always a level 50, or close to it. You may find the occasional person who PVPs a lot and is r4 or higher, but they will be few and far between.
What level is ideal to start?
34. Without a doubt, the most useful thing you will need to rift efficiently is Hide II. Of course, if you have a bit of a masochist in you, I started at level 30. The problem with level 30 is you can't hide from rangers, at ALL. Sorcerors will see you, anyone carrying seeds of detection will see you. You move slower, you hide for less duration on average...its just a pain in the ***. For the easiest time with hiding, get to 34 and at least get Hide II, this limits the only people to catching you down to lv 40+ assassins and rangers. Of course, being 34, you lose access to the 32 max rift which is very convenient and both of them drop you in easy access spots to deploy your kisk... but be prepared for a harder time getting around safely.
The next level of notable difference is 35, as you can equip lv 35 weapons. ALWAYS upgrade your weapons, at least your main hand. The accuracy will help you fight other scout types and you'll just hit harder in general.
I'd say 35 is your best balance of gear availability and areas to farm.
When to level beyond 35?
Once you have farmed most of your jewelry items, and at least your gloves and boots, you are set to move onto the next tier and hit 40, but why?
Even though at 40 you're limited to basically few places to farm players, you get your first attack speed weapons, a 4th stigma slot, and you're now going to be farming for level 40 abyss items! This is the ideal spot to stop for a long time, as you'll be able to kill the higher levels who come to thwart your farming efforts, and your AP gain will primarily come from a combination of them and the people you are farming.
5. Equipment
What should I get, what order?
Aion Armory Item
First things first, get these. 21% speed will let you keep up with everyone short of a sin with a chanter in his group using Word of Wind. And maybe Mau Form rangers. Everyone has speed boots of some kind, you will NEED these to stay competitive. As said before, speed = survivability. Without speed, you are a dead duck. Stack these, sprinting, and 30% speed scrolls and you will have one of the highest passive land speeds in the game. Chanters and other Sins are the only classes that will ever keep up with you consistently and for long periods of time. Even then, thats only if they also have boots and use scrolls.
Aion Armory Item
Next, these. The attack speed will be very crucial later on especially with Flurry and an attack speed weapon. I would always recommend the two above pieces before anything else.
next,
Aion Armory Item
All the jewelry items come next, 2 rings, 2 earrings, necklace, and belt. All of these give you +% damage against players, and believe me, these will help you kill things BRUTALLY fast compared to others. These will also last you until 50, so they are well worth the AP farmed. Rings are 44k, Earrings are 66k each, and the necklace will take 88k.
next,
Get to level 40 and get:
Aion Armory Item
Aion Armory Item
(One or the other depending on your race)
Attack speed isn't the only reason! This adds yet more (4.2%) pvp damage to your setup. Sure you can put cash in on an expert sword at 40, but no weapon's stats will compare to the PC damage and FIVE SLOTS to do whatever you please with. If nothing else, mainhand an expert weapon (noble if you can afford it for 18% SPEED!), but offhand at least one. You can even farm two if you want to stack, and then +10 one of them for your main hand. This of course takes money, but two would give you a whopping 8.4% pvp damage, and with the accessories you can stack yourself up to 20% or so very easily.

Next, start working on your level 40 armors, shoulders, pants, belt, helm, and chest (really tough!). You will by now appreciate how difficult and carefully you must play once you breach rank 4. The chest will require you to farm through most of rank 1 to obtain, and this gets really tricky as you lose 750 ap for dying at rank 1!, as well as people you typically farm will yield less and less AP due to rank diminishing returns. For most purposes, you will not need to go far into rank 1 for (pants/helm take 158k AP), but the chest (210k AP) will be the hardest to farm, but still doable. Anything past 1-star officer at level 40'ish is nearly impossible due to diminishing return, and how much ap you lose for dying (even to a zerg!)
Finally, and completely optional, farm an AP bow. 5 sockets, attack speed on that as well, and pvp damage. It will make your bow plucking a lot more effective than you think! Socket it with crit to maximize stun chance, and if you're really rolling in the dough, slap a good godstone on it, paralyze, or immobilize, or something that will stop your opponent in their tracks! This is, of course optional.
This will gear you up in all the level 40 gold armor, and everything except for your weapons will be gold!
How long will it take to get X gear?
Building a twink is a time consuming process. You can easily spend months gearing him up depending on how often you farm AP, how much AP you farm each session, and how quickly you farm. It also will depend on your income. Most people twinking an assassin will have a main with lots of money, and at lower levels, a lv 50's income will easily fund you infinitely. Of course, this also depends on whether you buy or farm/craft your consumables, which takes up a lot of your time.
Realistically, assume in one night you should aim for a minimum of 30k AP farmed. This I can get done in an evening after work in about 4 hrs, maybe 5 on a bad night, and it also depends on whether I get cursed or not, or how late a rift spawns...many factors come into play.
Assuming you make X AP every night, you can figure in how long it will take to get your target piece of gear. Say you make 20k a night, you can expect say, your gloves in 3 nights, or your earrings in 4. I typically shoot for 30k at a minimum per night.
Also consider that your rank will make it harder and harder to farm AP as it goes up. This is due to diminishing returns on how much lower ranks give you, as well as how much AP you lose upon death. Things to note about dying:
Reference on AP gain/loss
R9 through R5: Fairly insignificant
R4: Lose about 100 AP on death
R3: Lose roughly 200 AP
R2: Lose 400 AP
R1: Lose 750 AP
More key notes about rank, dying:
- Dying to guards will make you lose 0 EXP and 0 AP, if you need a quick escape back to your kisk spot, bullcharge some guards!
- Restocking supplies is easy, Return out of the rift, stock up, then fly to the abyss, Eastern shard (if Asmo), Western Shard (if Elyos) and charge the teleporter guards on the opposite side of the shard to get back to your kisk.
- Killing targets 4 ranks under you starts to yield less AP, don't be alarmed if you kill a rank 6 at rank 2 and see less AP than expected...
- After 1-star officer you are pretty much going to meet a brick wall for low level AP farming. Everyone will be after you, especially higher levels who see an easy opportunity to get quest credit for their officer kill quest. The AP you get will only come from r4 anymore, and they're not as common as they could be. Most people will spend AP at rank 4 in this level range.
Notes about AP gain:
- Killing targets at low HP (i.e. with a mob on them) diminishes the AP you gain.
- AP gain is based on several things. One of them being how much of the damage YOU did to the player. If a mob did more than 50% of their hp in damage before you jumped them, it is likely that you will only get half AP credit.
- Clerics who solo elites often times will be worthless, no matter the rank. This is due to the fact mobs have done well over 100% of their health in damage to them, but the fact they can heal doesn't change that. Killing a full HP cleric who just tanked an elite mob for a group usually yields almost no AP
- Do not confuse the above with "killing low hp targets". A freshly rezzed target with 5% hp gives FULL AP. Keep that in mind for clerics...often times they will rebirth when they see you run off into the distance. One trick I use is to run out of their combat log range, hide, run back towards them, and if they're rebirthing (usually are), ambush and kill them just out of rez for full AP credit. I call this "double dipping"!
- Rez-killing grouped people is often a very easy way to farm AP...some stupid players will sit and rez their buddy over and over again no matter how many times you rez-gank them. If you find people like this, take advantage of it and farm them dry!
AP worth by rank
Rank 9: 90~100AP
Rank 8: 100~150AP
Rank 7: 150~200AP
Rank 6: 200~300AP
Rank 5: 300~400AP
Rank 4: 600~AP
Rank 3: 900~AP
Rank 2: 1200~AP
Rank 1: 1500~AP
Don't forget 4 ranks lower gives diminished returns...at rank 1, a rank 5 only gave me 200'ish AP. Something to keep in mind. When choosing targets always go for the highest rank first if they are an easy kill, but still prioritize easy kills first in "group fights".
6. Strategy
Kisk Spots
For the sake of not endangering your valuable kisks, just a word of warning: There are tricky spots you could place your kisk...however there will always be someone who knows how to get to them! And these spots will be the first places they check!!!!!!!!!!!!. Often times the best kisk spot is the most obvious...I've often just dropped a kisk out in the dead open of the middle of nowhere (i.e. eltnen's gigantic desert)...the likelihood someone will cross paths with it is very unlikely, and even less likely that someone will look for it in the most obvious of places. Of course, putting a kisk out in the open is still dangerous and you are playing with lady luck's favor.
Find a spot that is obscure, not glitch spots preferrably since those are the first places that get sweeped. Trust me, I've lost more kisks to the unconventional than the obvious. However, do try to put it in a place that is not easily visible. Up on a ledge can be a good spot. Somewhere off the beaten path or somewhere that people won't normally think to look...put it in low traffic areas, etc.
I will not list kisk spots as that can ruin the credibility of a guide that tells people how to kill your kisk, be creative!
Most of all, don't be afraid to experiment with kisk spots! Try a spot, evaluate how long it takes for someone to find it...if it lives the full 2 hours, you have a secure spot for a good while. Keep using that spot until it gets found out, then move it to a completely different location. As you rift more and more frequently people may become keen to your kisking habits...never kisk in even remotely the same area, more than once if you get caught.
Also, never fight near your kisk, if you die and rez, people may spot your dot and know where your kisk is hidden. Most people will camp your corpse till you either release or kisk rez, so never fight near your kisk. Also popping back up to fight someone after they just killed you is a good indicator of where your kisk might be close to. If you die, try alternating farming locations to make your kisk spot less obvious. Again, never make yourself visible after a death for at least 5 minutes, if someone just killed you and sees you run by a minute later, its pretty obvious they are getting warmer to your spot.
Tactical Retreat
Insert 1000 different possible Sun Tzu Art of War quotes here.
Watching the map and your combat log will be more important now than ever. Counter gankers will start swarming you the more time you spend in the rift. The more you do this the more of a name you will make for yourself, so don't go in thinking it will be a field day. People get butthurt very easily and will call high levels in to remove you. Never be afraid to run from a fight you can't win. Hiding from high levels and ganking the people in your range out from under their nose is both good practice and also fun!
Don't be afraid to make it look like YOU are afraid of someone. Often times someone will take this bait. I use it primarily to lead someone away from guards by acting like I am afraid of them. Obviously there isn't much you can do with them sitting by a guard, but if they get cocky and think you are a free kill, you can lure them into a trap. Especially when you might be outnumbered, but you know how to handle a 1v2, its very easy to give them the confidence to chase you far out of guard's safety bubble.
There also comes a time when you need to run from a fight. If you mess up, or a cleric pops out the bushes to heal the guy you almost killed, you might want to consider running and attacking again with a different strategy.
For the record, getting caught by 3 sorcs and 2 sms...not very fun.
7. Farming Zones
Knowing where to find the best areas to find people in your level range is important.
The best places are by the flight points on the map, however be aware that everyone comes through these locations frequently and you may draw easy attention from much higher levels just passing through.
2nd best places are high-traffic quest hubs, these notably attract less high level attention and supply a bulk of people closer to your level. The only pitfall is that often times they will be close to other people also questing...so expect to get zerged if you aren't careful.
Asmodian Zones

Light Blue: this is generally areas where you'll find people around 28-30'ish on average. Good place to go ganking if you are starting early (30'ish), note that it is relatively close to the Agairon Village flight point, so high levels can respond fairly quick to your gank spree. The area by the spring has Omblics, which I should add are a great way on most servers, to make some quick income to fund your consumable. In fact, Omblic Petals alone have funded everything for me from start to finish. At least 10mil kinah I've made so far just selling petals, and at least 60% of that to buy consumables -_-, rest for medals, manastones, etc...but this also depends on how much they sell for on your server. On Lumiel they are relatively low compared to some servers.
Dark Blue: These areas will generally be very high traffic, including higher levels so be wary. You will find lots of people to gank in this general area in the 30-35 range since most of the Agairon quests are around that level. Being high traffic, the ap to be gained is pretty high, you may get zerged quickly due to its easy access and a major flight point sitting about 2 feet away. I made a ton of AP at 35-36'ish in this region. You may also consider...
Magenta: This region, the area leading up to Fire Temple, and the area just outside Kaidan HQ, you will typically find people in the low 30s as high as 40 roaming these areas, it varies greatly so being somewhere in the middle should be the best. Just outside the Observatory you can gank people heading into Kaidan, or just questing around there where the Tigrakis are. Another thing to note is camping outside the general area of the Fire Temple entrance, its a sort of choke point and people will pass through frequently. Beware as both areas tend to be where groups lobby up.
Red: This will typically be the last general locations you will farm in the high 30s and at level 40, the lepharist citadel is a great wealth of AP as many pepole spend a lot of their high 30s and low 40s there, solo'ing elites and just grinding. Expect to fight multiples, groups, and have people jump in on fights. The slope to the upper levels of the citadel make both observation points and escape routes. You can use the bridges as a choke point or as a way to find targets, stealth and glide down to gank them, then repeat.
The other red area is Kaidan HQ...you will need to be very good at avoiding mob aggro while dodging the wrath of zergs to survive these areas. Both have mobs that hit REALLY hard (lepharist sorcerors, non elite have an aggro burst nuke that hits for almost 2k...), so be really careful when fleeing. Of course, with some craftiness, you can turn these mob heavy areas into your opponent's worst nightmare.
To note: in Lepharist Citadel NOTHING sees through stealth, so you can hide and run right through the packs of mobs, while non stealthers will be helpless to chase you without risking wiping their buddies or themselves.
In Kaidan only watch out for Mages (i.e. Shamans, Soothsayers, etc...) and Ranger types (carrying spears) everything else will not see stealth. The non elitei ranger types (kobolds carrying bows) will not detect either, just keep that in mind.
It should be noted that INSIDE Kaidan you will find primarily groups and nothing but. I highly recommend you become good at picking off targets and running, or knowing how to wipe a group if you want to succeed. 1v6 is hard no matter how bad your opponents are, and impossible if most of them are semi-alert. Don't try to take them all out yourself if you don't think you can, the smaller groups are more possible, but generally groups don't pay the most attention to that sin randomly ganking their sorceror while they're busy with an elite.
Be really careful of groups with gladiators. Ankle snare and instant aerials on demand will RUIN your day if you fail to twist it.
