Overall the drop rates in this game are not very good, at least in the last half of the game levels. I've played almost 8 characters to level 30 and beyond, and I have noticed that the drop rates for white (armor, weapons, accessories), green, and even blue gear are excellent until you reach level 25-30. After that, things really tail off.
Now let's talk about the instances. Fire Temple is an odd instance to use as a loot reference, because it has a short cool down timer (30 min) and quite frankly, you can 4-5 man it in 25-30 minutes. So to complain about Kromede or other boss gold drops there just doesn't work. However, move over to Aether Labs, Steel Rake, Theobomos Labs, and Dark Poeta, and you have some real problems.
I have done Steel Rake lower and upper 41 times. Yes, I said 41 times. A good group run will take about 1.5 hours, but typically you're in the 2 hour range. All of that time spent and I have seen one gold chest piece, three gold shoes/boots, and one gold weapon (mace). There have been several runs where not even a blue item dropped.
This is where I have problems, especially when you reach the captain fight. It takes time to get a group to go to Steel Rake, you're locked out for 5 hours, and you spent 2 or more hours in that instance and the boss drops are very disappointing. This should not be the case at all. Bosses should drop blue items guaranteed. Additional green and gold items along with the blue are just bonuses.
However, what you will find is that the game operates in this fashion consistently, no matter what instance you run. Even worse are the world bosses that roam the game world that you finally get a group or alliance to defeat and they drop nothing too. Again, this should not be the case. It is all a matter of time investment vs. reward, and right now the game is severely lacking in that department.
