I guess we're back to the fact that I'd like to believe my consciousness is more than just chemistry and neuron connections, as science says. I just don't want to admit that once these chemicals decay and my neurons stop firing pulses, there will nothing left. In my view soul and consciousness cannot be explained by science.

I can understand that. But then again, not everyone has the same view of God. There are very religious people out there who still believe in the Big Bang and Evolution. They see God as the "life-force" and the supernatural power that transcends all. Not everyone sees God as an old man sitting on a chair on a floating cloud thinking "what can I create next?" Bible can be interpreted in many ways - 7 days in which God created the world might well be a metaphorical way of saying "It took a bunch of stages for the world to be created the way it is now." People at that time were just really big on metaphors which many people nowadays don't understand. As I said, I see Bible as a historical document. And a good one for that matter. It shows you a lot about the mentality of people at that time. Where was I going with this? Oh yes... I just don't think of God as "someone", but rather as "something" or even "anything". And I have met Christians who even agreed with me! That is, if it exists at all. :)

I guess it all depends on how you define those terms. My view of Atheism is similar to what Wikipedia says: "Atheism tends towards skepticism regarding supernatural claims, citing a lack of empirical evidence." Hence I cannot describe myself as such, since I don't consider lack of evidence an evidence on its own (did that even make sense? :p ) Basically, what I think is that the fact that you can't prove God exists doesn't automatically mean he doesn't exist. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I'm not Christian. I don't believe in churches, sects, deities... I think Bible is an interesting historical document (just like Qur'an) and that Jesus was an interesting impersonation of what they were trying to say at that time. I just... don't know. :)

That's certainly an interesting position. But since you do believe in some sort of supernatural (reincarnation), don't you think that means you're not really an atheist?

I see your point. I really do. But in spite of all that, it's hard for me to believe that when you die it just ends there. I really do think there's more to human life and human soul than just random neuron discharges and chemical reactions. Is it God? Who knows. That's pretty much my position.

To me, atheism isn't logical. :) Sure, there is no proof God exists, but is there any proof he doesn't exist? Agnosticism is (in my opinion at least) the most sane way to look at things. Every time a self-proclaimed atheist takes their baby to be baptized because "what if..." makes me smile. That is not atheism. ;)

I never said I was an atheist! If anything, I'm an agnostic.
