Fallout 3, Redux

Posted 07-21-2009 at 07:42 PM by Tareith
Been a while since I posted last, so I figured I'd share what I've been up to. With Aion (and pretty much any other game) months away, I started playing Fallout 3 again.

I loved Fallout 1 and 2, and it's always held a special place in my heart. When Fallout 3 came out, I admit getting nice and addicted to it (even giving up 3-4 hours of sleep the first few days). My goal is to get my new character to 30ish before the next and final DLC is released in August, so we'll see. Right now, she's level 11 and I decided to go with the unarmed/stealth route. When I say unarmed, I mean no fist weapons, nothing. Just stealth and punches. So far, it's pretty rough (stealth suit helps) and it won't be smooth sailing until silent running and better criticals. I've played several characters to 20 (one to 30), seen the good and evil sides, tried different weapon loadouts/playstyles, so I'm just going with the one I liked best.

Now for the Redux part: mods. First, I'm tired of Megaton and Tenpenny Tower so the very first one on the list was my very own small bunker. Quick access, plenty of storage, and for some reason; a hot tub.

Next came updating the textures. Hair, eyes, and skin have all been redone and enhanced from the standard. This even applies to the followers you can get which is quite nice.

Last on the list was outfits. No god items, nothing stronger than what you'd normally find in the game. Mostly just stat-less items or redesigned armor (the stealth suit she's wearing now, for example). The only weapon is the katana that comes with the mini-hideout. It's on par with the shocksword but weaker than the shishkabob. It sits on the stand at my base.

The mods have breathed a second life to the game, made it look better and suit my tastes even more. I tried the green world mod (adds grass and trees to the world) and the Zombie mod (replaces non-humans with zombies!) but they just aren't my cup of tea. I am using the 5x world encounter mod for an extra challenge. Nothing quite like fighting 15 mole rats at level 2, lol.
