Guide: How to download and install Aion without problems

If you are new to Aion and still gathering information about the game, a couple of community members managed to put an overview of the game discussing its most prominent feature, you can find it here:

This guide is:

-For those people with an unreliable internet connection
-People who want to download and not worry about their download getting corrupt and restart from zero
-People who have problems downloading the game from the NClauncher
-People who already have a corrupt compressed game client and wish to fix it

IMPORTANT: If you receive any error during any step of this guide, or if you see any of the numerous 'Gameguard' errors. Check the installation FAQ below for possible solutions:

--If you just want the fastest way to download the game, just click here, if you want a safer installation then keep reading.

Before we start, here are some general information and tips. You don't have to read them, but it's recommended:

-Aion US client and Aion EU client are one and the same, it doesn't matter which one you download.

-The NClauncher for both regions is one and the same, you specify the region of your game account (US/EU) in the NClauncher settings as will be explained later.

-Some people downloaded an earlier version of the NClauncher from the early beta links report some errors and that they cant see 'Aion' in the launcher, it is recommended that the NClauncher you have installed is from the link provided by the guide.

-Aion game client is offered by NCsoft for download as a compressed client. The default method to download the Game client is through the NCsoft launcher.

-The NClauncher by default attempts to download and install the compressed, after it finishes downloading, the launcher will make a hash check for file consistency, if the compressed file is corrupted for any reason the launcher will automatically delete the download and restarts from zero.

-The NClauncher prefers to delete and restart the download rather than extracting the compressed patch and checking files individually, this guide offers an alternative method of downloading and installing the game client, a kind of way to avoid this automatic deletion behavior.

-Make sure the drive you wish to download Aion in is NTFS and not FAT32. FAT32 file system have a 4GB file file size limit and you will have an error if you try to download to a FAT32 drive.

-When you attempt to use this guide make sure you are starting from a clean install, if you already have a corrupt installation or patch-file. Make a backup of the file or the installation folder and uninstall completely then follow the guide steps, keep the backup as it may still be used.

-After successful installation, Always keep a backup of the compressed game client, small incremental patches that the NClauncher downloads after installation of main client can still lead to client corruption if any download error occurs.

We now start with the guide



-First download and install the NClauncher (close after installation - do not run it yet):

-Secondly you need a download manager to download the latest Aion Open Beta client safely. both Flashget and Getright are fine choices.

For players who are just starting to install the game, there are many ways to download Aion Open Beta client, the client itself is 9.3GB in size (Compressed)

Official NCsoft torrent for Aion 1.5, you will need a Bittorrent client to use:

If you have problems applying the downloaded OB patch 1.5, a user provided a method that may help:

1. Go to X:\AION\Aion_Main_0.0.0.0To1.0.2.10\ProductFiles where "X" is your drive letter where Aion is installed
2. Look for "Aion_Main_1.0.2.14To1.5.0.1.ncpatch". If its size is anything less than 3GB (3,000,000 KB) delete it and apply patch again. For me, it was just 540 KB.
3. Run launcher, even if it will attempt to download again, just select update and it will examine the patch file you just installed.
Just wait for it to finish afterwards. If there are any missing files, the launcher will just re-download it for you.

I remember applying the patch before the 31st and encounter 320 gameguard errors when I attempted to launch it before I encountered the problem. Hope this helps.

3)Make a backup copy of the Compressed-Client.

4)Extract the compressed Aion_Main_0.0.0.0To1.0.2.10.ncpatch with Winrar or 7zip software.




-This will extract Aion_Main_0.0.0.0To1.0.2.10.ncpatch [which is the compressed client] to its uncompressed individual game files and folders

-If you get errors during Compressed-Client extraction then do not panic, continue the extraction.

-You should now have a folder named [Aion*patch number*] with lots of files in it, even if you had extraction errors.



5)Rename the folder to (Aion) and put it in any folder you want to use, we here use the NCsoft folder as default but you can use any other, the NCsoft folder is created when you install the NClauncher. [ex: C:\Program Files\NCsoft\Aion]

6)Run launcher, and change your region setting according to you game account. [If you bought Aion US you choose NA/If you bought Aion EU you choose EU] (see below)



Tip: The NClauncher needs BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service - a windows service) running to function properly, to check if BITS is running:

For XP

-Open Control panel -----> Performance and maintenance ------> Administrative tools

-Open component services and check if BITS is started (Screen below):



If it is not 'started' / right-click ---> properties ---> start service

For Vista

* Start > Run > type "Services.msc", double click BITS and set it to Automatic, then Start, then Apply.


7)Right-click 'Aion' in the 'uninstalled' section ---> Properties -----> choose: Browse installation folder [look for aion.bin file in your Aion Bin32 folder] [see screenshot]



-Aion should now be under 'installed' in the NClauncher, the auto-launcher will attempt to download the latest patch 440~MB in size. If the patch download is slow for you do the following:

*From the launcher go to Files > Settings > Autoupdate >Turnoff Autoupdate

*Use a download manager to download the latest patch for the game directly from this link:

http://aion.patcher.ncsoft.com/Aion/...0.2.14.ncpatch

IMPORTANT: This is a collective major patch that includes all the individual 4 patches from version 1.0.2.10 to 1.0.2.14 and only works if you have Aion version 1.0.2.10


--How to Apply Patch ? --

*Once the patch is downloaded --DO NOT EXTRACT IT--, move it to your 'Aion\ProductFiles' folder. Now, start the launcher and Right-click Aion from the launcher and select 'Update' or you can turn on Autoupdate from settings, the patcher should recognize the patch and use it.


-Now, after successful patching. try checking if there is a repair option when right clicking 'Aion' from the launcher, if there isn't try starting the game normally.

8)Right click [Aion] and choose: Repair (consistency check)




When repairing, NCLauncher checks the (individual) game files, after it finishes checking it will only redownload the corrupted individual files if there are any. It will not delete the entire game with this method. In my case it was 8 files around 349mb.

If you already have a back up of a corrupt patch file, you can extract it and follow the same steps to install the game properly.

All these steps worked swimmingly thus far, with one minor problem... after running the NCSoft launcher, Aion is not on the list of "Not Installed" games. I've uninstalled the launcher twice thus far and made sure to download the most recent version available. Thoughts?

Aion is not even in the Launcher/Config/Default/games.xml or GamesAddendum.xml file listed. - maybe i got a other version of the patcher ? - Launcher is version 1.5.4.2 (Help - about)

Nope. Dungeon Runners, Lineage 1 and 2, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, and Exteel. No option anywhere, either on the launcher or on NCSoft's site, to download/update other games. The game client download worked fine, and it's in the folder it should be in, the launcher just won't display it. I'm so close... ;_;

I have downloaded the game through the ncSoft Launcher, but it seem that I have got a corrupted file, then I tried to install the game manually by the Bin file from the patch folder as mentioned on this guide, then I click the Repair (consistency check) button the launcher starts to Verify the files normally, but when it reaches in a certain file, it starts to download 1031 files, which is a "patch" of 8GB size. How is that possible? Did I miss any patch or something like that? 'Cause the game's size with the current patch is 5.25GB isn't it? Then why am I downloading a bunch of miles that counts for 8GB? ._.

the game is 2 chunks. One is 5gb the other is 8gb. that is normal. I had to do the same. let it run.

There's another way to download the 8GB part then? The launcher isn't helping much =/
